Ash yawned, stretching as he glanced to his left, only to notice the boy sitting beside him. His eyes widened slightly in recognition. Grey eyes.
"Avasyu?" Ash asked, leaning in a bit.
Avasyu turned toward him.
"Are you that guy I met yesterday at the cafeteria?" Ash added, wanting to be sure.
Avasyu nodded. "Yeah."
A subtle wave of relief washed over him. It was hard to describe, like a sense of familiarity, something akin to déjà vu.
Even though they had met before, Ash extended his hand. Avasyu accepted, and they shook hands briefly.
After that, they both focused on the lecture. Despite it being his first day, Avasyu found himself understanding much of the theory being taught.
Still, his natural shyness lingered. Throughout the rest of the classes that day, he didn't speak to many of his new classmates. He even forgot to ask about the upcoming physical exam.
Yet, as the day came to an end, he couldn't help but smile. His first day at the academy had gone well. He had met new people, taken his first step into this new chapter of his life.
When the class ended that day, Ash caught up with Avasyu.
"Which room have you been assigned?" Ash asked.
"Um... room 141. What about you?" Avasyu replied.
Ash scratched the back of his head. "I forgot the number."
Avasyu blinked. "What? Then how are you going to find your room?"
"I'm not going to my room," Ash said casually.
"Huh?" Avasyu tilted his head, confused.
"I'm going to your room."
"Uh... okay," Avasyu said, still processing the sudden declaration. "Let's go."
They walked together to Avasyu's room. Once inside, Ash flopped down on the bed without hesitation.
"Are you shy when talking to people?" Ash asked, glancing at him.
"I... I don't know," Avasyu replied. "I usually just avoid people."
"Why?" Ash's gaze was curious but not pushy.
Avasyu hesitated until Ash added, "Is it because people used to say you're cursed?"
His words hit Avasyu like a wave. His eyes widened. "How do you...?"
Ash grinned. "I know everything." He tapped his temple. "That's my superpower."
A flicker of wariness crossed Avasyu's face, but Ash quickly waved it off. "Relax. I know because of your eyes."
"My... eyes?" Avasyu echoed, glancing at his reflection in the window.
"Yeah," Ash nodded. "Grey eyes are the rarest out there. But..." His tone shifted, becoming more serious. "There's a cost."
Avasyu's gaze met his. "What do you mean?"
"It attracts chaos," Ash said quietly. "That's why people call them cursed eyes."
Silence hung between them, the weight of those words settling in.
Avasyu sat on the bed, settling to Ash's left. "I know," he said quietly. "I've already lost people because of it. That's why I'm here... trying to improve myself. I want to show the world I'm not cursed."
Ash stood up, facing him with a determined look. "From now on, we're friends," he declared. "I'll help you get stronger. I'll help you prove to everyone that you're not cursed."
Avasyu opened his mouth to speak but hesitated. "...But...."
"Yeah? What is it?" Ash asked.
"It's just... you and the others," Avasyu said slowly, "you saw my eyes... but none of you reacted like everyone else does. Not even the principal or the assistant. Why?"
Ash smirked. "Listen," he said, crossing his arms. "We're not just classmates here,we're like a family. A family of people with superpowers."
Avasyu's eyes widened slightly.
"We don't fear chaos," Ash continued. "In fact, that's why we're here. Every one of us wants to fight it and end it. Even the principal and the assistant have their own powers."
"So... that's why you don't see me as cursed?" Avasyu asked.
"Exactly." Ash nodded. "But you should know, normal people out there won't see it that way. They'll always judge what they don't understand."
Avasyu sighed. "Yeah... I figured as much."
"Which is why," Ash added, flashing a grin, "you're sticking with me."
"Huh?" Avasyu blinked in surprise.
"Yeah!" Ash said confidently. "Don't underestimate me. If the others see you hanging out with me, they'll start seeing you differently too."
Avasyu couldn't help but chuckle. "You're pretty full of yourself, huh?"
"Hey, confidence is key!" Ash grinned. "Besides, I am the greatest."
Ash said goodbye to Avasyu. "I'll see you tomorrow in class."
"Yeah, see you," Avasyu replied with a nod. After Ash left, he lay on his bed and soon drifted into a peaceful sleep.
The next morning arrived swiftly. Avasyu got ready and headed to class. As he stepped inside, his eyes scanned the room, searching for Ash. Not seeing him right away, he made his way to his usual seat.
To no surprise, the same boy with brown hair was there, fast asleep. Avasyu glanced at him, shaking his head slightly before sitting down beside him.
Curious, he turned to the boys in front of him. "Hey, why is he always sleeping here?"
Athar shrugged. "No idea. He's like this every morning when we come in."
Avasyu sighed, leaning toward Ash. "Hey, Ash! Wake up," he urged. "Class is about to start."
Ash stirred, letting out a long yawn. "Avasyu!" he greeted groggily. "Good morning!"
He yawned again, stretching his arms overhead. "Hooaahh! Man... mornings are rough."
The class began as teachers came in, covering subjects like physics, biology, technology, and, most intriguingly, superpowers.
Unlike other subjects, the superpowers class wasn't about traditional teaching; it was a space for open discussion. Superpowers were a new phenomenon in the world, having only begun to emerge five years ago. With limited research and understanding, their full potential remained a mystery. That was why individuals with such abilities were enrolled in the country's top academies.
At these institutions, students learned to control, enhance, and understand their powers. The significance of superpowers in society had grown so much that it became a permanent subject in the curriculum, with special classes dedicated exclusively to students possessing them.
And now, Avasyu found himself at one of the nation's most prestigious academies, unaware that his powers would soon change everything in this world.
