The approaching Nando and his two Pokemon looked as if they had just gone through an intense battle, their bodies covered in injuries.
Nando's condition was relatively better, with only a minor wound on his forehead. However, his Marowak had a chipped skull helmet, its bone mask covered in cracks, and its body was riddled with wounds.
As for his Houndoom, its condition seemed even worse. Up until now, it hadn't dared to put weight on its right hind leg, clearly suffering from severe injuries.
Even so, both trainer and Pokemon glared at Liam with fierce expressions, as if they had finally gotten their chance for revenge.
Liam observed Nando's sorry state and sighed lightly. Shrugging, he felt almost embarrassed to make a move.
"Sneasel! Use Quick Attack on Houndoom first!"
"Sneasel!"
Liam's Sneasel leaped forward, its entire body turning into a streak of light as it shot forward like a flash of electricity.
"Houndoom, use Fire Spin! Marowak, use Bone Club!"
Nando was a battle-hardened trainer and wasn't thrown off by Liam's quick commands. The moment Sneasel moved, he issued his orders.
"Doom!"
Houndoom gritted its teeth and, despite the pain in its injured leg, opened its mouth to unleash a Fire Spin. The swirling flames formed into a blazing fireball, rushing straight toward Sneasel.
Meanwhile, Marowak gripped its bone club tightly, took a step forward, and leaped high into the air, swinging its weapon downward in a heavy strike.
"Sneasel!"
Facing a two-pronged attack, Sneasel remained fearless. It accelerated, sliding close to the ground to dodge the incoming Fire Spin, then sprang up to avoid Marowak's downward strike.
With a sharp turn mid-air, Sneasel slammed headfirst into Marowak's neck. A crisp cracking sound echoed as Marowak's bones fractured.
"Maro!"
Marowak let out a pained wail, its body plummeting to the ground in a cloud of dust, motionless.
"Don't stop! Use Fury Swipes!" Liam continued issuing commands while discreetly retrieving a PokeBall from his cloak, preparing for any emergencies.
"Houndoom, use Flamethrower!"
Nando was furious that Liam still dared to act so arrogantly after being intercepted. Gritting his teeth, he ordered an all-out attack.
"Doom!!"
Houndoom, baring its fangs in rage, opened its mouth and released a raging Flamethrower.
But Sneasel was most proud of its speed. With a swift sidestep, it dodged the attack and darted forward, its claws glowing as it closed in on Houndoom.
"Don't stop, Houndoom! Keep using Flamethrower!"
Nando was well aware of Sneasel's speed. His only hope was that by continuously attacking, he might land a hit.
As long as he could connect once, with Fire's advantage over Ice, one Flamethrower would be enough to take Sneasel down.
Yet, Sneasel shattered his hopes. It gracefully weaved through the tunnel, jumping unpredictably—sometimes up, sometimes down, left or right—completely erratic.
Houndoom couldn't pinpoint its target and hesitated, causing its attack to stop.
"Sneasel!"
While Houndoom's attack stalled, Sneasel didn't. Having already leaped several times through the tunnel, it suddenly shifted direction and reappeared beside Houndoom.
With lightning-fast movements, its sharp claws tore into Houndoom's injured hind leg.
Nando and Houndoom didn't even have time to react. Houndoom let out a miserable cry before its eyes rolled back, collapsing unconscious.
"Damn it! You bastard, go to hell!"
Seeing both his Pokemon defeated, Nando flew into a rage. He reached behind his back and pulled out a handgun, aiming at Sneasel, ready to fire.
Strangely, Sneasel seemed completely unaware, standing still in place without moving.
"Click!"
Just as Nando was about to pull the trigger, a flash of white light streaked across, followed by the crisp sound of shattering metal.
The next moment, Nando slumped to the ground, unconscious.
Behind him, Arcanine had appeared, with the remnants of a broken handgun scattered at its feet.
Liam let out a long breath of relief, silently grateful for Arcanine's timely intervention. Otherwise, Sneasel might have been in real danger.
However, Liam found it odd. Why had Sneasel suddenly stopped moving? With its speed, dodging a bullet should have been effortless.
As Liam walked toward Arcanine and Sneasel, Sneasel suddenly lifted its head. A bright white light enveloped its entire body, completely shrouding it from view.
"Ah! So that's it. It was about to evolve… Looks like Houndoom and Marowak contributed quite a bit of experience." Liam finally understood.
He had given Sneasel a Razor Claw earlier, and since it was currently nighttime outside, this was the perfect condition for evolution.
Before long, Sneasel's evolution was complete. A newly transformed Weavile stood in front of everyone, sporting a red crest and a gleaming yellow gem on its forehead.
"Wea! Weavile!"
"Haha! Sneasel, you evolved into Weavile! That's amazing!" Liam grinned and reached out to ruffle Weavile's head, laughing in excitement.
"Woof!" Arcanine barked happily at Weavile's success.
"Weavile!" Weavile shyly scratched its head before hopping aside to get used to its new form.
As Liam ruffled Weavile's fur, he also took a moment to check its updated status.

Liam nodded in satisfaction. Although Weavile's ability had changed from Keen Eye to Pressure, which was a slight loss, overall, its strength had improved significantly—a net gain.
"Alright, now that Weavile has finished evolving, let's head back before we run into any more trouble." Liam reached for his PokeBalls, ready to recall Arcanine and Weavile.
But just then—
A series of loud crashes echoed from the distance, followed by sharp cries of pain.
Liam's brows furrowed. He recognized the sounds as those of the Pokemon inhabiting the mountain tunnel. Bringing the fight here had dragged them into this mess.
Feeling a pang of guilt, Liam put away his PokeBalls and rushed toward the source of the commotion with Arcanine and Weavile at his side.
After running for a while, the sounds of battle became clearer. Turning a corner, Liam was met with an infuriating sight.
In the now spacious part of the tunnel, a group of poachers was engaged in battle with a herd of Onix. Both sides had sustained injuries, but the Onix had the upper hand thanks to their rock-hard bodies.
However, that advantage was quickly slipping away.
A man in a black suit stepped forward from the distance, a sinister smirk on his face. Black mist swirled behind him as a Gengar emerged, its eerie grin fixated on the struggling Onix.
"I originally had no interest in worthless Pokemon like you, but since you dared to stand in our way, I'll make you regret it! Gengar, use Dark Pulse!"
"Hehehe! Gengar!"
