My father's voice was icy, slicing through the air like a sharp knife. Ridley could only bow his head further, his body shaking under the weight of those words. The once-assured second-in-command looked completely shattered, his complexion ashen and covered in a cold sweat.
Without another look at him, my father joined me in the ambulance. The emergency responders moved quickly around us, examining my vital signs and applying pressure to stem the flow of blood from my injuries.
