Chapter 10

I dialed Frost's number, suppressing the anger rising in my chest.

The phone rang for a long time before connecting. I heard the rustling of plastic bags through the receiver.

I could already picture her hogging my pizza, devouring it greedily.

"Hello...?" I ventured cautiously.

"Zeke, you're back?"

Frost's voice was soft and sweet with a hint of appeasement, like a kitten who'd just stolen some cream.

"I saved you half the pizza. Come on up."

I took a deep breath, forcing myself to stay calm.

"Teacher Frost, can we meet and talk? You can't just... move into my place like this."

There was silence on the other end for two seconds, followed by the sound of wounded sniffling.

"You moved in to live with me, and now you're having second thoughts? Have you forgotten your promise to take care of me...?"

Alarm bells went off in my head.

When did I ever say something like that?

What on earth had Frost misunderstood? No, I needed to clear this up right away!
