For the first time since the test began, the students started to cheer. Only the first-years of course.
The thick walls was once again rebuilt and the cheer got even louder as Jade posed himself ready before the obstacle.
"Why are they cheering so wildly?" a senior asked from the second year stand.
"Didn't you hear his name when he was called? That's the Morningbolt boy, man," someone replied him.
"Yeah, I get that. I get that his family is ranked number 1, but does that mean he's that powerful?"
"I guess you haven't heard yet. Rumour has passed round that every member of the Morningbolt family takes a large dose of some top secret chemical that enables their body become more open for more mutation on Luxus than others. It is why they have always been on the top list of the most powerful quirkers."
"That's bullshit to me though. If the chemical is top secret, how did this story get out?"
"Well, I just heard it too. Don't come at me."
[START]
Jade placed his left foot over the boundary line for quirk throwers. Suddenly, his body started glowing brighter from within. His eyes went fiery red, his hair was redder, and his whole body transformed into one giant lamp in a human shape. He was building energy from his core.
"He's on a god mode, I tell ya."
"What the hell is happening?"
"He's going to bring hell on us all at this rate."
"I can't watch this. It's creepy."
"C'mon Jade. Show'em whatchu got!"
"Son of hell."
The crowd erupted in mixed reactions. Yet, Jade didn't stop powering up. It got to the point where he looked like he was about to explode himself, then...
Out of his heels, a rocket fire shot him up into the air. It was a slight jump but the fire he concentrated in his heels made him jump higher until he almost touched the ceiling of the hall. When he reached the highest he could get, he bent his body back slightly in the air and shot out two huge fireballs from both hands at the same time.
The dim hall heated up like it had been attacked by a fierce afternoon sun in a cloudless sky. The two fireballs flew at amazing speed at the blocks of sand, and a loud explosion filled the air.
All seven blocks was sent flying into the air, shattered and turned to fine specks of molten sand.
Even the teachers couldn't contain their shock. Mrs Black tried so hard not to scream her lungs out. Mr Al was trying very hard to save every last detail of this incident in his brain. Mr Alpha closed his eyes in utter disbelief. Even Hunter wasn't comfortable in his seat. Amelia Grenn, the little teacher who was standing behind them all, only nodded her head in silent awe.
The display board flashed wildly:
[JAYDEN MORNINGBOLT: S-RANK QUIRK STRENGTH]
[A NEW FIRST YEAR RECORD HAS BEEN SET]
Even the third year students were shocked.
"What did I just witness?"
"Is it really true that the Morningbolt family injects some chemicals in their members?"
"This kid is a monster."
"Interesting."
"Oh my days."
Without moving away from where she stood, Mrs Black announced the second test.
"SILENCE STUDENTS. ANY MORE RUBBISH WHISPERING AND YOU'LL BE SENT OUT OF THE HALL.
"UP NEXT, THE TARGET PRACTICE."
"I bet he can't perform well in this round. He might have the strength but the accuracy is a lot to learn," Alpha observed.
"I agree with you, my friend," Hunter Man said.
"For the first time."
[START]
As soon as the human-shaped targets were set, Jade got into action immediately. He blasted away the five moving figures without breathing twice. The figures started moving faster and he managed to blast them all again at the intermediate speed.
For the advanced speed, Jade only managed to hit the target twice, and lost the other three.
[JADEN MORNINGBOLT: A-RANK ACCURACY]
"NEXT UP, AGILITY TEST!"
"Nah, he lacks the speed. I can see it in his movements," someone said among the second year students.
"You lack the brain. I can feel it in your speech," another replied him. "Just shut up and enjoy this little show."
[START]
Jade flew and twisted and turned, using his quirk to direct his movement. Shooting fire from his left hand, he gained speed to the right. Shooting from his left, balanced him to his right. Facing his palms downward shot him upward. On and on he went, dodging and parrying the arrows from the bots till he finally got hit by the third arrow at the advanced speed level.
[JADEN MORNINGBOLT: B-RANK AGILITY]
[JADEN MORNINGBOLT: A-RANK AVERAGE]
[A-RANK EQUIVALENT TO 6/7]
[CONGRATULATIONS]
Jade got injected with the small device and his wrist glowed with the letter "A" in digital format.
Mrs Black walked up to the stage as Jade walked back to his seat with pride.
"WELL, THAT WAS INDEED A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE EARLIER. WE WISH FOR MORE OF THAT.
NEXT ON THE LIST IS SEVEN HOWELL."
A lean boy with jet-black hair, a slim face and sharp eagle eyes rose up from his seat and walked slowly upstage. On his way, he bumped into Jade and made him trip.
"You've got a death wish, boy?" Jade challenged.
"No, weakling. But I've got another wish... To watch you open your mouth wide at what I'm about to do on stage right now."
"What? You think you can beat that feat? I got the A-Rank for star's sake. What can you do with your awful little quirk? Make us laugh?"
The hall went up in laughter as the little showdown on the stage steps became heated. The teachers didn't even interfere with their bragging. To them, competition is needed for every student to reach his full potential.
"Watch and learn, son." Seven Howell finally said as he left Jade to gawk at his thin frame. When he got on stage, he said. "This 'quirk, no quirk' system is trash. We all think the Xollante race got us all into this mess, but Earth's real doom comes from humans. Damn the system, damn the teachers, damn the Xollante, and damn y'all."
