— Leveling Up In the Apocalypse (3)

The Hellhounds corpse faded away. As it did, the spoils dropped onto the ground. The hellhound dropped a dagger. Jack looked at the dagger and looked at the description.

[Name: Hellhounds Fang Rank: B Description: A dagger fashioned from the sharpest fang of an elder hellhound Status: Upon hit, extremely small chance to 'Destabilize' an enemy.]

'Destabalize? What the hell is that…oh well. I'll probably figure it out. It's good I got a new weapon. This sword is done for. Though, I'll keep it around just in case. In this…arsenal.'

Jack held out the broken sword and watched as it became a spectral form and vanished from sight.

[Used skill: 'Kings Arsenal']

"Hm, neat."

Everything else that dropped from the hellhound was junk. Just raw material that was left behind by it. While in his spare moment of solace his looked through the utilities of the system. His status window. Showing his name. His hp, his mana, and his level.

'Where's my stat window?'

Usually in a game there would be a stat window for specific attributes. But there was no such thing. This was different. Every time he levels up, the system would improve very part of him at once. It was odd. But something he could deal with. He found the inventory. Where he could store items.

'Whats the point of the Kings Arsenal if I have an inventory?'

[Answer: The inventory can only input and output one item at a time. While 'The Kings Arsenal' can have an unlimited amount of weapons stored in it at any time. And the inventory is also limited to about 500 slots. Which would be easier used for other material. The Kings Arsenal can also participate 'Skill Growth' a feature of the system which allows skills to branch off other skills. In which the inventory is not a system.]

'God this thing really likes to talk…but that's interesting. Skill growth…wait, did this thing just answer a question I was thinking about, not saying outright?'

[Answer: Correct.]

'How?'

The system went silent. Either refusing to share the answer, or it couldn't share the answer. Jack couldn't tell. He sighed.

"Alright then…moving on. I should get to a vantage point so I can scout the city."

Jack ran into an apartment building. And up the stairs. He had gotten much faster. While his normal self would probably slip and fall if he ran up the stairs. Him currently could soar over a small flight of stairs in a few seconds. It was a drastic change in his physical state. He busted through the door to the roof and looked at the city. He was lost in the system and this new aspect of his life. He had forgotten that this wasn't a video game, and he watched as he saw the city he lived in burning, he had forgotten. These monsters killed.

'A few minutes ago I could hear screaming. It's silent. Is everyone dead already? Maybe it's a good thing I abandoned that place. I wouldn't have had to think about everyone I loved getting slaughtered, although. There's a good chance the monsters didn't only enter through the city. I remember the article about the mutated wolf. Maybe they're not…mutated. Maybe they came from somewhere. System, do you know about this?'

[Answer: The Incursion is an event that commences when the mana on the 'borders of dimension' collide. Largely due to an in balancing in the universe. Although, the incursion has evolved and changed. It appears stragglers from many different dimensions have entered through the rifts in space. And they are not here to help you.]

"…clearly…"
