When Heaven Walked In

Tanmay had been standing near the stage, feeling restless after avoiding persistent conversations with multiple women at the wedding. He wasn't in the mood for any of it. But the moment his mother nudged him and he looked up, everything else faded.

His breath hitched.

Aditi.

Dressed in a golden lehenga that shimmered like the setting sun, she walked alongside the bride, her movements graceful, her presence commanding. The soft waves of her hair cascaded over her shoulder, a few stray strands framing her face, which was radiant under the warm glow of the fairy lights. The intricate embroidery on her outfit sparkled, as if the stars themselves had been woven into the fabric.

Tanmay had seen beautiful women before, but none had made him feel like this-like he had just been sucker-punched, like the world had paused just for a second to let him admire the scene in front of him.

He barely registered his mother whispering, "Still think I was joking?"

He swallowed hard, his grip tightening around his phone. Aditi's eyes flickered toward him, and the second their gazes met, something electric passed between them. A flicker of surprise crossed her face before she gave him a small, knowing smile.

Tanmay felt his heartbeat thunder in his chest.

Was she even real? Or had he accidentally walked into a dream?

As the wedding festivities continued, the dance floor opened up. The bride and groom had their moment, and soon enough, guests were pulled in to dance.

Aditi was standing with her high school friends, laughing and swaying to the music. That's when she saw a few people whispering and looking in Tanmay's direction.

"Who is that guy?"

"He looks really good."

"He came with his parents, but he hasn't danced yet."

Aditi smirked.

She knew exactly how much Tanmay avoided these things. But she also knew that if challenged, he wouldn't back down.

So, without overthinking, she walked toward him.

Tanmay, who had been watching her from a distance, straightened slightly when she appeared in front of him.

She tilted her head. "Why are you standing here like a statue?"

"I don't dance at weddings," he said smoothly

.

"Well, you're about to make an exception," she said, offering her hand.

Tanmay raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Aditi smirked. "You wouldn't want to look bad in front of your future wife, would you?" she teased, throwing his mother's earlier joke back at him.

Tanmay chuckled, shaking his head. "You're impossible."

"And yet," she said, stepping closer, "you're still looking at me like that."

His gaze darkened slightly. "Like what?"

Aditi felt her heart skip. "Like you're already imagining how this will go."

Tanmay exhaled, amused and impressed at the same time. With a smirk, he finally took her hand. "Fine, but don't complain if you can't keep up."

As the opening beats of Banno Ki Saheli filled the air, Aditi's friends cheered as she pulled Tanmay onto the dance floor.

The teasing beats of the song set the mood, and Tanmay quickly adapted, following Aditi's lead. He was a natural-of course he was. Smooth, effortless, and confident.

Aditi twirled in sync with the music, and Tanmay caught her hand, pulling her back just as the chorus hit. Their chemistry ignited instantly.

Their eyes locked.

Aditi's breath hitched as he leaned slightly closer, his hand still holding hers. The world blurred around them.

"Not bad," she murmured, slightly breathless.

Tanmay smirked. "Told you."

As the music picked up, they moved together in perfect rhythm. Aditi's golden lehenga swayed beautifully, and when she turned, Tanmay's fingers brushed against her bare waist for a fleeting second.

A shiver ran down her spine.

He noticed.

A flicker of mischief crossed his face as he spun her again, his grip firm but teasing.

Aditi bit her lip, trying to ignore the way his presence sent a thrill down her veins. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"

"A little," he admitted, his voice husky.

The crowd cheered as Aditi matched the playful energy of the song, twirling again, her bangles jingling. But just as she turned, Tanmay stepped forward, closing the space between them. For a moment, everything slowed.

Her chest almost brushed against his. His fingers brushed the inside of her wrist, sending another shiver through her.

Aditi sucked in a breath, blinking up at him. The fire between them was undeniable, burning under the warm golden glow of the wedding lights.

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them needed to.

The song continued, but for that moment, they were lost in their own world.

As the music faded and the crowd erupted into cheers, Aditi's friends immediately swarmed her.

"WHAT was that?" Priya whisper-shouted, eyes wide.

"You two looked like you were about to-" Ananya grinned mischievously.

Aditi, still catching her breath, shook her head. "Nothing happened!"

Priya smirked. "Right, and I'm the Queen of England."

Meanwhile, on Tanmay's side, his mother had the biggest smirk on her face.

"So," she teased, nudging him, "do we need to start planning your wedding now, or should I wait a little longer?"

Tanmay groaned, rubbing his temple. "Ma, please."

His father chuckled. "I've never seen you dance like that before."

His mother sighed dramatically. "Beta, if this is how you dance at a friend's wedding, I can't wait to see how you'll dance at your own."

Tanmay exhaled, glancing at Aditi, who was still surrounded by her friends, laughing. He didn't know what this was.

But whatever it was, it was definitely something.

And maybe, just maybe, he didn't mind that at all.
