Kaito stood slowly, drawing his hand back from the book.
His voice dropped, calm but ironclad.
“This isn’t a book… it’s a living artifact. And opening it here would be foolish.”
He looked around the tent — thin fabric walls, a few magical wards, no real protection from what might be sealed inside.
“There could be a trap. A summoning. A curse. Something sealed for centuries… waiting for a fool to release it.”
His eyes burned with calculation.
“I’m no fool.”
He turned to Lyla.
“I’m going to build a lab — right here, on the edge of this village. I’ll design it myself: reinforced with divine runes, cursed seals, and elemental barriers. Once it’s done… I’ll open the book where it can’t hurt anyone but me.”
Rose raised a brow, approving.
“Smart. Even your cursed aura wouldn’t shield you if that thing erupted.”
Lyla nodded with quiet respect.
“Then I will assist you in building it, my lord.”
