Wang Hei chimed in after Tang Xueba finished, "I also shared your photo in the comments of a popular Weibo post titled 'The Most Beautiful Girl in Town.' It's already got over 10,000 likes!"
Rong Xuelan's face immediately blushed.
Over the past few days, many customers had complimented her and said she was very good-looking.
However, Rong Xuelan didn't believe them and brushed it off as polite flattery.
In her mind, good-looking people were supposed to be people who did makeup and dressed nicely.
No like her, who doesn't use makeup or dress nicely.
At her stall, the long line of customers extended all the way outside the night market.
Some at the very end of the line couldn't get any tofu pudding, but no matter how much they begged, Rong Xuelan refused to make more than she had planned.
"I have to take care of my child, so I can't stay out too late. If you come earlier tomorrow, you'll definitely get some," she explained.
However, Rong Xuelan noticed that the milk tea stall next door had started selling tofu pudding as well.
When she saw the sign reading "Savory and Sweet Tofu Pudding – 5 Yuan a Bowl" at the milk tea stall, she simply smiled and said nothing.
She believed her 10 yuan tofu pudding would taste much better than their 5 yuan version.
As expected, a few customers who thought her tofu pudding was too expensive went over to the milk tea stall instead.
Glancing at the bowls from the milk tea stall, she thought they didn't look very appealing.
Those customers only took a few bites before tossing their bowls away and returning to her stall to buy a proper serving.
When one of the boys from the milk tea stall angrily tossed his disposable bowl onto their counter, Rong Xuelan couldn't help but let a small smirk slip across her face.
She thought the matter was settled, but to her surprise, trouble soon followed.
Two men with slicked-back hair, wearing tight pants and shiny leather shoes, came to her stall.
They ordered two bowls of tofu pudding, but as soon as the chubby man took a bite, he pointed at the bowl and shouted, "There's a fly in this tofu pudding!"
"That's impossible!" Rong Xuelan immediately panicked and rushed over.
Sure enough, lying on top of the smooth, white tofu pudding was a dead green fly.
For a moment, she froze, unsure of how to respond.
The two men immediately raised their voices, creating a scene.
"There's a fly in the tofu pudding! That's disgusting!"
"This place is not clean, and you dare to charge so much? Have you no shame?"
"Damn it, give me a refund! I need to go to the hospital for a check-up! I'm already feeling a stomachache!"
...
Rong Xuelan looked at the two men acting in perfect sync, throwing a tantrum and playing the victim.
Her previously dazed mind suddenly cleared up.
They were deliberately causing trouble.
But why?
She ran her business openly and honestly and never cut corners or cheated anyone.
Who would go out of their way to target her?
Behind her, Dou Dou began to cry.
Rong Xuelan glanced back and immediately noticed the boy at the milk tea stall smirking, his face full of schadenfreude as he watched the commotion.
Sensing her gaze, the boy quickly looked away and pretended to wipe down his already spotless counter.
Rong Xuelan sneered inwardly.
She had figured it all out.
Maintaining her composure, she looked up at the surveillance camera perched on a nearby pole and raised her voice, "Go ahead, call the police and have me arrested!"
The two troublemakers froze in place, and the onlookers around the stall fell silent.
In the food business, cleanliness was just as important as good taste.
The more she downplayed the incident, the more it would seem like she had something to hide.
People might conclude her tofu pudding was unhygienic, and even if it tasted great, no one would return.
Tonight, she absolutely couldn't let them pin this on her.
"This street is lined with surveillance cameras," Rong Xuelan continued. "Call the police now and let them review the footage."
The chubby man's expression faltered, but he quickly straightened his neck and said, "Don't try to dodge the issue! I'm asking how you plan to compensate me for my suffering!"
"If the police find anything wrong with my tofu pudding, I'll immediately accompany you to the hospital for an exam—even a stomach pump if necessary," Rong Xuelan said calmly. "Can someone call the police for me? Everyone here can be a witness. If it's really my fault, I'll refund every single customer who bought tofu pudding from me!"
As soon as she said this, the crowd surged forward like a wave, surrounding her stall and creating a buzz of chatter.
The two men looked around and realized they were now trapped in the middle of the crowd, unable to leave.
"Fine, call the police! Who's scared of the police?" they said.
Someone in the crowd made the call and shouted, "The police said they're on their way!"
The passersby who are curious about the commotion, began to gather around and ask what was going on.
The crowd grew larger, nearly blocking the entire street.
Suddenly, someone squeezed through the crowd, repeatedly saying, "Excuse me, please make way," until they reached the front of the stall.
It was Tang Xueba, the boy with buzzcut hair.
His appearance now looked disheveled from the jostling, but he didn't seem to care.
With his face flushed, he raised her voice and shouted, "Those two men put the fly in there by themselves!"
"Shut your damn mouth! What proof do you have?" the chubby man roared and stormed toward Tang Xueba.
Tang Xueba who is startled by his actions instinctively stepped back.
Rong Xuelan immediately stepped forward to block the man, shielding him.
Although the onlookers had come to watch the spectacle, they couldn't stand to see a grown man bullying a woman with a kid.
