CHAPTER 42

At that moment Edward leaned back, arms crossed over his chest, a mocking smirk plastered across his face as he watched Valentina struggle to keep her composure.

"Lock her up," he ordered casually, as if he were sending a stray dog to the pound.

"I don't have time to waste on her nonsense again."

Again the police officer hesitated, shifting on his feet. But before he could move, Valentina snapped her head toward him, eyes burning with anger.

"So this is how you behave?" she demanded, her voice sharp and filled with resentment.

"You just lock people up because Edward has money? Because Victoria has connections?"

However the officer didn't respond. He simply kept his gaze forward, stiff and unreadable.

Valentina took a step forward, her jaw clenched.

"What is my offense?"she pressed. "Tell me, right here, right now—what crime have I committed? What law did I break?"

However there was silence.

Not one of them spoke.
