Immediately he nudged his friend beside him.
Darren nodded quickly. "Of course. We didn't know. If we had known it was GSK—"
"You didn't care who it belonged to," the manager interrupted from behind Adrian. "That was the problem."
At that moment Adrian raised a hand slightly, and the manager went silent.
Still, Edward persisted. "It's all just a misunderstanding. We came here in peace. We—we'll pay. That's all it was. Nothing more."
But no one believed him anymore. Not even himself.
And as Adrian stood there, eyes locked, unflinching, Edward realized—This wasn't going to be fixed with money.
