Chapter 10: Ready To Kill

Chapter 10: Ready To Kill

It was the first time I had seen a respawn.

The goblins that were dead until a moment ago came back to life.

Their heads appeared first as a bright light flashed, and then the rest of the body.

It happened simultaneously…

It was fine until here. But then I noticed several goblins missing.

It was fine even until here… but then they noticed… the dead bodies of their loved ones.

It was Gobia, who, in an attempt to locate her baby Gaka, found the dead bodies.

She didn't scream initially. The bodies were far… just too far from her to see them clearly.

She was shocked, sure, to see the bodies, but not terrified… that is until she noticed a tiny little head, on a side, not too far.

A bond was formed.

Her eyes widened, pupils dilating as she took her first step towards it.

I stayed quiet.

She walked slowly and cautiously, all while she kept sweating.

I stayed quiet.

I wasn't sure though, but she was probably gulping large chunks of saliva and was nervous… just too nervous…

Her mind had already processed something, but her heart wasn't ready to accept it…

That is until she came close to me and stood behind me, almost next to the body of her beloved baby.

No, I couldn't see her shadow falling on me or crossing me… the faint blue light of the portal placed her shadow in the opposite direction, so how was it that I knew she was right behind me?

Simple…

Her breath… a bit deep and exaggerated.

Her steps formed tiny little puddles in the remnant pools of blood.

And the little sweat drops that touched the pools made ripples and enough sound to be heard.

And my perception detected Gobia herself.

This time, I gulped hard, unsure of what she was going to say.

She didn't say anything.

For about a minute, she kept her mouth shut.

Intrigued and probably out of real interest, I turned back, slowly and steadily to check on her.

I was horrified.

Her head was tilted to the right, her eyes wide open and her mouth agape as saliva dripped out of her mouth, trailing along the loose tongue extended outside, falling right on her own feet.

She didn't blink, not even once.

One would even say that she had become a statue if they saw her…

I gulped several chunks of dry saliva as I stared at her…

She was calm, collected, terrified, confused, in denial, and… suspecting me.

Her gaze that was lowered, in a terrifying manner, shot up.

She looked straight into my eyes.

I almost faltered, taking a step back as I saw those lifeless eyes. I almost forgot to breathe for a second. My own eyes were widened in surprise…

Our eyes met, yes, but I couldn't look at her any longer. Was it guilt?

Even I was confused!

I never thought the bodies wouldn't be back!

I thought… I simply thought that I could eat and they would come back with no memories whatsoever and I would never have to think about it ever again…

But this…

While thoughts flooded my mind, Gobia, whose entire body had become a river, building up layers of emotions, finally destroyed the limits and flooded the place.

"AH—"

"AHHHH—"

"AHHHHHHHHHH!"

The goblins who were searching for their close friends, mates, and family had already noticed the dead bodies, but they didn't think much of it.

Sure, in the back of their heads, some weird thoughts rose, but they were insignificant and inconsequential to them.

They still attempted to search for their friends and family…

But all that changed when Gobia screamed.

Her scream was more like a wake-up call to them when they finally decided to take notice…

"GAKA!!!"

Her scream intensified as she dropped onto her knees.

She then proceeded to pick up the head of her baby as she brought it closer to her…

She cried.

Tears streamed down her eyes which soon turned into green blood.

I stood by, watching all of this.

Gukyi, another goblina, who was in deep love with Hikoro… finally spotted him.

She almost underwent a similar process, very similar to what Gobia underwent.

And she was not the last one to have such a scream.

One by one, other fellow goblins who noticed either their son, their brother, or a friend… they started weeping and crying out loud, especially the Goblinas.

Some, however, stood a little back.

Our eyes met.

Their gazes were directed towards me.

First, they scanned my face… my eyes… which were covered in shadows of guilt and remorse.

Then my mouth, my chin… which were covered in thick green blood. They had small pieces of muscle and fat still stuck. They also noticed a lot of slimy stuff near my nose.

Then they took notice of my hands, my nails… everything! All of it was bloodied.

"Gubzo killed them…" said one, murmuring under his breath, his voice inaudible to anyone present here.

But then another said, the same words, this time louder, "Gubzo killed them!"

He almost screamed.

And in that instant, their saddened, tired, dead eyes raised almost instantly and looked at just one particular individual… me.

I remained calm.

To them, I probably looked like some merciless creature who didn't even care about their deaths. They thought of me as a monster who had taken the lives of their closest ones mercilessly, without even thinking twice…

They thought of me as… a… human?

They had eyes like mine when I had first died at the hands of humans.

Fear. Hopelessness. Disgust.

But along with that… their eyes had something else.

The desire to get revenge.

They probably didn't think of me to be as strong as a human so it made sense that they would think about killing me to avenge the fallen.

It would make sense…

It would totally make sense, wouldn't it…?

If your family was dead, killed mercilessly by your close friend, then you wouldn't think twice about who he was.

You would run out, without thinking anything, to take his life!

It would make sense, wouldn't it?

"…"

And…

It would also make sense if I took their lives, in self-defense.

"Stucky. Add five points to strength and five points to agility."
