Chapter 19: Decisions and Devour
It was not too hard to complete the mission. But I wouldn't call it easy either.
The second and third… they were a little easier to do.
Devour the serpent?
I couldn't help but drool at the sight of the serpent's body.
It looked delicious, sure, but by eating it, I would be able to take a step ahead.
So, I was just deciding to eat the serpent when all of a sudden, I heard someone's voice…
"Gubzo, what are you doing?" It was the Elder.
I turned around, just briefly after pausing my short walk and stared at the cowering goblins, especially Gobia who hadn't failed to blame me after every respawn.
I stared at the words…
『—> Kill all the goblin kin』『incomplete』 I chuckled inwardly.
When she had first started blaming me, I had already decided to kill her and the rest.
As long as there is a single seed of doubt, prosperity cannot grow. It will be overpowered, bullied, and ultimately cannibalized by the dangerous rebellion that would come off as a product of doubt. Before devouring the serpent, I decided to finish the lingering task - kill my kin.
But there was a problem.
They would simply respawn.
Sure, I wasn't completely aware of how this mechanism worked, but maybe… just maybe, if I interfered, then they would probably not respawn?
At this point, I was not contemplating whether I should kill them or not. It was already decided that they would die.
What worried me was their retention of memory and respawn…
But for the sake of completing the mission and getting stronger, I decided to do it.
There was one thing though, I wanted to give them death as soon as possible.
I didn't want to torture them, not even in the slightest.
I didn't know how I could do it though from my limited experience, I knew one thing… slicing one's head or plucking their hearts out usually gives a swift death.
They were weak.
Unlike me, even after they gained experience, they would barely level up.
So, I knew that I could do it.
And I did it.
My agility was already high so before they could even blink and reopen their eyes, I was in front of them.
"Huh?" the elder, who had called out and was ahead of everyone else, was utterly shocked.
He felt a weird pain close to his chest, but the surprise of finding me right before him took over.
He lowered his gaze, just a little, only to find an organ in my hand - his heart.
The time it took him to blink was enough for me to approach him, form a blade out of my right hand, and pierce his chest. Furthermore, I even pulled it out and held it right in front of him.
He collapsed.
He fell to the ground before being able to say another word as a pool of blood started to form.
Everyone stared…
"Elder?" Gobia was bewildered when she saw the Elder collapse.
She was even more terrified when she noticed his beating heart in my hand.
Her legs gave out and now, she was on her knees.
Other than her, there were a few more Goblinas who couldn't hold their screams.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" they screamed, in terror, but that was enough.
They were my next targets.
I moved faster once again and one by one, I kept killing them.
I had changed my approach.
Combining all my fingers in the same plane, I formed a makeshift blade that sliced off their heads before they could even realize.
I think they did realize at the last moment, but hopefully, they didn't feel any pain.
5 minutes… there was chaos for five minutes.
Sure, I tried to give them as much less pain as possible… but the fear in their minds made them scream.
I almost felt my eardrums burst, but whatever…
All that screaming only lasted for five minutes and now…
Corpse…
Peaceful.
Corpse.
Peaceful.
Corpse.
Peaceful.
Yup, I felt good now, seeing how I had completed at least one task of the mission.
『—> Kill all the goblin kin』『completed』
I stood up from the piles of corpses, all bloodied, as I walked towards the lifeless serpent.
I walked slowly. I was checking something…
『You have leveled up!』
『You have leveled up!』
I had leveled up two times and was now Lv.7.
"Good," I said to myself before staring at the body of the serpent once again.
This time, my mouth didn't drool. I did want to eat it, but killing the goblin kin had left a weird aftertaste in my mouth.
"Whatever."
I didn't care and walked towards the corpse's body.
I looked at both its parts, especially its head. The mouth was wide open and a small amount of venom was pouring out. It was melting even the hard ground.
"Could come in handy," I thought, looking at the thick liquid.
If only I had something in which I could store it…
I was thinking about a container… to be precise, some wooden things. But if the venom could melt rocks, then what's a simple wood?
Getting anything would be useless. They will just be melted… unless…
"Hey Stucky, can you store this venom?"
『affirmative.』
Saying this, Stucky stored the venom into one of the boxes in inventory.
I was surprised.
It was a question I had asked half in jest, but Stucky followed through.
Impressive.
I looked at the box and there, the liquid was visible. I knew instinctively that if I clicked on the box, the liquid would splash out so I refrained from doing so.
Shaking my head and finally ready, I began… my saga of devouring a serpent!
『Notice!』
『—> Devour the Serpent』『completed』
I had completed yet another thing.
Another set of stats appeared in my mind. It was the profile of this serpent… it was all thanks to my devour stat.
But I refrained myself from looking at it for now as my eyes only glanced at one thing.
『—> Kill the Serpent』『incomplete』
And maybe another thing?
I guess I forgot… about that big-ass serpent that was using stealth, yet all coiled up and cowering to attack me. It was trying to exit the… portal.
