Chapter 2. A Chance At Life

Honk! Honk!

The honking of cars and knocks on a window made Jasmine open her eyes.

Confusion smeared on her face as she raised her head from the wheel of the car, she blinked several times.

The knocking continued, and she inclined her head to the side to see a man knocking on the window of her car.

She was in a car! On the road! How??

Jasmine kept staring at the man who was seemingly talking to her, but she couldn't hear his voice due to the soundproofing this vehicle had.

Jasmine slowly pitched her thighs to check if she was dreaming, but it hurt, which made her realize that she was… not dead.

She gazed down at herself and back to the man.

She swallowed hard before winding down the window, and the man's worried voice rolled out.

"Hello, Miss. I'm sorry for crashing your car. Are you okay?" His brows were joined, and his voice seemed to be concerned, making Jasmine wonder what had happened.

"What happened?"—she let out, surprised at her tone that was still so normal, as if she hadn't screamed and begged for her life on the rooftop.

The man's eyes widened, and his breath caught in his throat.

"Did—did you hit your head and lose your memories?" he stammered in fear.

Jasmine couldn't answer that; she had yet to understand anything that was happening.

Just then, her eyes spotted the billboard a little distance from where she was.

On the billboard was a broadcast about her forthcoming wedding with Jack Raven.

She saw herself smiling widely at Jack, who kissed her hand.

Her smile was bright, too bright, as if she was making the best decision of her life.

'What is this? Did I… Wa—was I reborn?' A voice screamed in her head as her eyes darted around the car, the road, the billboard, and the black car that was parked in front of hers.

Today…

This day was repeating itself. This was two days before her wedding!!

'I was reborn two days before my wedding to Jack!!' Jasmine's eyes grew wide at the realization.

On this day, she had gotten into an accident, and her car was hit by the infamous Kingsley Elm.

She was given a second chance.

The universe and the angels pitied her and heard her last plea for another chance.

This time, she won't die miserably. She would change her fate!

Jasmine turned to look at the man who was Kingsley Elm's driver. She whimpered, "I think I broke an arm…"

She winced a little as she feigned hurt while holding onto her right arm.

"What's going on here? Did she refuse compensation?" A cold voice soon interrupted, pulling the driver's and Jasmine's attention.

Jasmine saw him… Kingsley Elm, the richest billionaire of all time.

His cold black eyes swept towards her as he came to stand beside her car; his hands were tucked into his pants pocket.

Jasmine swallowed hard when she saw him.

In her previous life, she had shouted at him before driving off, telling him to go to hell with his compensation.

She did all that because of Jack.

Kingsley Elm was Jack's biggest rival, and because she loved Jack, she made all his enemies her enemies too—including the man standing close to her car with those discerning eyes.

The driver quickly reported, "I think she probably lost her memories." He whispered, and Jasmine pushed open the car door and came out of the car.

Kingsley's eyes deepened a little when he heard that.

He was looking at Jasmine up and down, who was facing him.

"Mr. Elm, you did not only break a traffic rule but also bumped into my car, and I just dislocated my arms!"

Jasmine immediately painted the story to her taste as she lied in one breath.

Kingsley's brows joined before he looked down at his wristwatch and then raised his eyes again to look at Jasmine.

"Miss Trevor, I think at this point, you should be naming the amount you want as compensation and not telling me what I did and did not do," his calm voice retorted.

Jasmine scoffed, "My family is not poor, and I'm sure you know that."

Kingsley took a step back before clearing his throat.

"Well, I do not have the whole day to banter words with Miss Trevor. So, if you probably have spare time, keep gisting with my driver. I have somewhere to be," he said dismissively.

But Jasmine quickly cut in on his words, "Mr. Elm, you have to take responsibility for my injury."

Kingsley leaned in, tightened his jaw, and his brow seemed to be furrowed. "Enough," he snapped in a raised tone.

He closed his eyes as he took another deep breath. "Say what you want."

"I want you," she said bluntly before realizing what she had just said.

Kingsley's driver gulped down nervously before shifting away from them.

A deep frown fell on Kingsley's face when he heard that.

"Miss Trevor has such a joking nature. But now is not the time to joke around. Go do that with your to-be husband, that Jack-ass," he chided with cold eyes, but Jasmine didn't flinch.

"I mean it. I do not want to go ahead with the wedding with Jack. I know you are his rival, and that's why I want you to be my groom," she proposed.

Seeing how serious she was, Kingsley's face stiffened.

"Why? Your wedding is in two days!" His eyes scrutinized Jasmine, whose eyes sparkled with great resolve.

Jasmine shrugged nonchalantly, "I discovered he has another plan for me. He is not a good guy. I don't want to fall into his trap."

'And get killed like before,' she added, but this time in her head.

She couldn't tell him she died and was reborn.

It'll sound ridiculous because of how unbelievable it seemed.

"So, I want you because what better way to face-slap him than getting married to his business rival," she added.

Kingsley kept quiet all through as if lost in thought.

His driver took a step towards him and whispered, "Sir…"

"Elliot, stay out of this." He cut his words immediately, and Elliot, his driver, took three steps back, afraid of Kingsley snapping his head off.

With a clenched jaw, Kingsley took out a small card from his suit and handed it over to Jasmine.

"That's my private number. I'll have my assistant get back to you probably later today," he said coolly.

Jasmine tried to suppress her smile. "Is that a 'yes' from you, Mr. Elm?"

Kingsley coldly disagreed. "No. I said I will have my assistant reach out to you later. I'm not going to rush into anything with you." With that said, he turned to leave.

Jasmine stared at his card, and a small smirk formed on her lips.

'Just you watch out, Jack. I'm going to bite you real hard,' she thought.

While she was swimming in her own thoughts, Kingsley's voice called out to her again.

"Also…" Kingsley gave her a side look before saying haughtily, "Stop going around trying to frame people with a broken arm."

Jasmine's smile immediately fell, and her ears reddened in embarrassment. She was caught.

Her lie didn't pass his sight. She watched him get into his car and zoom off.

She sighed before getting into her car again.

Just as she was about to start her car's engine, a vibrating noise followed, and she saw her phone ringing.

Her brows creased, and her lips twisted when she saw the caller.

It was Jack Raven…

'Speaking of the devil.'
