"Welcome, Kyro," said Rioji, the commander of the Fourth Division, his tone cold and cutting. His icy gaze sent a shiver down Kyro's spine. Rioji's very presence radiated a menacing aura. Kyro knew this man would be a harsh teacher.
"Here, you will learn to harness your inner power," Rioji declared, his steel boots crunching through the ash. "Resonance sleeps within you, Kyro, but it must be awakened. And that requires pain and suffering."
Rioji led Kyro deeper into the catacombs. The air grew heavier, the acrid stench of decay more intense. Kyro felt his lungs ache, his breathing becoming shallow. The poisonous air seemed to constrict his throat.
"Focus on your lungs," Rioji ordered, his voice sharp. "Breathe deeply and let the resonance within your lungs awaken."
Kyro closed his eyes, attempting to calm his mind. He focused on each breath, striving to ignore the toxic air. But the darkness and the pervasive stench were overwhelming. Fear crept into his heart like a cold shadow.
"Weakness is a disease," Rioji declared. His words cut through the darkness like a blade. "Resonance feeds on pain and suffering. Let it strengthen you, Kyro. Let it make you bloom."
Kyro felt panic rising within him. He had to learn to breathe this air, to endure the darkness, to harness the resonance. Otherwise, he would die here.
The Flame of Darkness Rioji shoved Kyro through a narrow, dark passage. The walls were damp and glimmered eerily in the flickering light of distant torches. From the cracks in the stone walls, Ash Blades emerged, writhing like living shadows and hissing. The stench of decay became unbearable, and Kyro felt his throat begin to burn.
"Feel the resonance, Kyro," Rioji said without turning back. "The flame of darkness is within you. You must ignite it before it consumes you."
Kyro stumbled, his knees buckling, but he forced himself to keep moving. His heart pounded like a drum, his lungs felt as though they would tear apart. He closed his eyes and focused on his breathing once more. This time, he felt something. A spark, deep within his chest. A faint trace of power pushing through the darkness.
Rioji stopped and turned to face him. "Feel the pain, but do not let it control you. Use it."
Kyro clenched his fists. He knew this was only the beginning. The darkness was not his enemy but his teacher. And the resonance was the key to his liberation.
