Chapter 81: Learning Wind Release

Chapter 81: Learning Wind Release

Seeing the test results, Kakashi felt another headache coming on.

He was known to possess all seven chakra natures: fire, wind, lightning, earth, water, yin, and yang. And indeed, he did have all seven chakra attributes, but their strengths varied significantly.

Without a doubt, Kakashi's strongest affinity was for Lightning Release. His self-created technique, the Chidori, was recognized as an S-rank jutsu, placing him at the Kage level in Lightning Release. His Water Release was on par with Zabuza's, and his Earth Release was also quite impressive, both roughly at the Jonin level. However, his Fire Release was weaker, limited to just the Great Fireball Technique. As for Wind Release, Kakashi had never actually used a Wind Release jutsu in his life he merely possessed the chakra attribute for it.

In the original timeline, when Naruto was practicing the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, Kakashi had him seek guidance from Asuma instead of teaching him himself. This was because Kakashi's Wind Release was simply too underwhelming.

If we were to quantify Kakashi's abilities using a panel system, it would look something like this: Lightning at level 5, Water and Earth at level 4, Fire at level 2, and Wind at level 1.

Kakashi first used a D-rank genjutsu, the Hell Viewing Technique, to send Sakura away. Sakura's hand seal proficiency was top-notch, but her understanding of jutsu and her total chakra reserves were barely third-rate. After many days of practice, she still hadn't mastered the Water Prison Technique, so Kakashi decided to let her try her hand at genjutsu.

Sasuke was easier to handle. The two had interacted before during the awakening of the Sharingan, and their personalities meshed well. Kakashi was confident in Sasuke's training and gave him a scroll on Lightning Release chakra nature transformation, telling him to go practice.

Naruto, however, was the real headache. Kakashi's Wind Release was simply not up to par.

Left with no choice, Kakashi had to ask Asuma for help, hoping to teach Naruto the basics himself and then have Asuma provide further guidance.

When Ino, the queen of self-improvement, heard they were practicing Wind Release, she came over to observe.

She happened to have a scroll on Wind Release chakra nature transformation from Danzo. Previously, she hadn't had the time to practice it, and there was no one to teach her. Now was the perfect opportunity to learn alongside the others.

Although Kakashi's Wind Release was only at a beginner level, he was an absolute expert in the field of chakra nature transformation.

Leaving aside Yin and Yang Release, there were five basic chakra natures: fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water.

For a ninja, the first chakra nature they develop is the easiest, as it is the one they have the highest affinity for. With some brains and hard work, almost any ninja can develop it.

Why "almost"? Because some people simply can't develop it, no matter how hard they try. Take Rock Lee, for example, or Might Guy's father, Might Duy, who famously turned the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist into the "Three Treasures."

These two had such low aptitude for ninjutsu that they were naturally disconnected from chakra natures, possessing none of the seven attributes. There was simply no way around it.

They had chakra, but no chakra natures. According to traditional views, such individuals couldn't become ninjas.

It was only due to the Third Hokage's special permission that Might Duy was allowed into the ninja academy, which later led to Rock Lee's admission as well.

These two were exceptions. Most ninjas could develop their first chakra nature.

If the difficulty of developing the first chakra nature is rated as 1, then the difficulty of developing the last one could be as high as 10 or more, due to the mutual restraint between the different natures.

Jiraiya was missing Lightning Release, Tsunade was missing Wind Release, and the Third Tsuchikage was missing Water Release. This wasn't due to low talent or poor comprehension, but rather because spending vast amounts of time and energy to develop a new nature wasn't worth it. Why bother when you could use that time to peep on people or gamble?

Ino already had Water and Earth Release, which were her naturally high-affinity natures. Learning Wind Release was more challenging, but since Wind countered Lightning and was countered by Fire, it didn't overlap with her existing Water and Earth natures. With her high "Nin" stat of 9, her learning progress was incredibly fast.

With Danzo's development methods, Asuma's guidance, Kakashi's experience, and her own high attributes, Ino temporarily gave up practicing the Water Severing Wave and focused all nine of her shadow clones on day-and-night training. After three days, she finally completed her Wind Release chakra nature transformation.

On her status panel, a white mist appeared next to her Water and Earth natures, and similar mists formed between Water-Wind and Earth-Wind.

The combination of Water and Wind resulted in the Ice Release used by Haku, while Earth and Wind combined to form the Magnet Release used by the Sand Village.

The two mists were faint and indistinct, their interiors unclear. Ino didn't have the necessary conditions to fully manifest them, but judging by their appearance, they were similar to the white mist that had previously hinted at Wood Release. She wasn't surprised, as she had expected this outcome.

From Kakashi, Ino learned the "Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall," specifically the version with dog heads.

Kakashi explained that during his time in the Anbu, he added the dog heads to the wall to let his teammates know it was a friendly construct.

Ino didn't buy it. Blaming it on his teammates? Who was he trying to fool? She saw right through his secretly flashy nature!

After mastering the Earth-Style Wall, she divided her shadow clones into two teams. At her command, one team would use the Water Severing Wave while the other used the Earth-Style Wall. After 45 minutes, they would switch.

While the genin were training tirelessly, the jonin took one of Ino's shadow clones to search for Zabuza's traces.

For the first time, Team 7 got a firsthand look at Team 10's relentless self-improvement, and the pressure was immense.

Sasuke channeled that pressure into motivation and, after three days, managed to develop his own Lightning Release chakra nature transformation. Kakashi was genuinely impressed with the boy and, after some thought, decided to teach him his signature technique from his youth: the Chidori.

The Raikiri was an improved version of the Chidori, but they weren't the same technique. The former was an S-rank jutsu, while the latter was A-rank. The Raikiri was more condensed, while the Chidori was more scattered. Just like the Second Hokage's improved Water Dragon Bullet and Water Wall techniques, the Raikiri required only three hand seals, while the Chidori needed five.

Sasuke was ecstatic. An A-rank jutsu! How many people in the ninja world could use A-rank techniques?

Ino's progress had put immense pressure on him, and he began training day and night, pushing himself to the point of injury, yet he gritted his teeth and persevered.

The technique was incredibly difficult, and his foundation in Lightning Release was weak. Ino had progressed step by step from D-rank to C-rank to B-rank techniques, while Sasuke was like someone who had just learned Arabic numerals and was suddenly thrown into solving quadratic equations. It was overwhelming.

Kakashi had never taken on a student before, and after teaching Sasuke the Chidori, he realized the problem. He wanted to teach Sasuke a simpler Lightning Release technique as a stepping stone, but Sasuke refused, stubbornly insisting on mastering the Chidori!
