After saying his piece, he silently began to prepare two cups of coffee for us. A bolt of guilt hit me hard—maybe I overreacted. Maybe I should've just asked him calmly instead of lashing out.
But did I really overreact, though?
I mean, sure, he might not have been the one who left the wine there, but it was still in his house. Something that dangerous shouldn't have been lying around. And yes, maybe he only used his mouth to—ahem—help me, but that doesn't erase the fact that I wasn't in my right mind. It was still without my consent.
Well… let's forget the part where he stayed up all night to take care of me.
I took a deep breath, trying to clear my head. I wanted to argue more, to make him understand where I was coming from—but the look on his face stopped me cold. He was clearly in a bad mood.
Should I apologize? Or would it be better to just stay quiet?
Ugh, I don't know what to do!
Whatever. I'll just say a small "sorry" and get it over with.
But before I could open my mouth, he suddenly turned to me. I visibly flinched. His eyes looked empty—cold—and he still seemed deeply upset.
He saw me flinch. His eyes narrowed, but he didn't say anything.
Instead, he picked up his cup of coffee and gestured toward the other one.
"That one's yours…" he said, pausing with a small, empty smile. "You can throw it down the sink if you don't want to drink it. I'll be in another room for now. You can use mine to freshen up. When you're ready to go home, just come to the room next to mine."
And with that, he climbed the stairs and disappeared.
Sigh.
He's really upset.
And now I feel terrible.
I reached for the cup of coffee he made for me and took a whiff.
Mmm. It smells good.
I took a sip… and froze.
How did he know the kind of coffee I liked?
I had expected something sugary or milky. But this… this was bitter. Just the way I liked it.
And that's when it hit me—I had actually told him before. That time.
He remembered.
He remembered such a little detail.
