"Kill them."
'huh?'
Lucien shot an even stranger look at Chief Niek for what he had just told him. That he would kill those two people tied up?
'You want me to kill these people?'
Lucien looked at the two individuals who were tied up on the tree, their heads lowered. Next to them there were two holes dug in the black earth... so he sensed that they were their graves.
However, before he understood the situation, a soft and qualitative voice was heard that sent chills down his entire spine.
"Son, please don't, please don't kill us. We are your parents... remember? When you were running out to me, you called me mom..."
Lucien's eyes widened in shock and horror. Now he understood why the group from earlier had given him pitying looks, and why Chief Niek had told him to stop running away from his fate.
All the confusion he felt before disappeared, and a new understanding came to his mind.
Darc, which was what Chief Niek called him, had been running away because he didn't want to kill his parents... But Lucien lacked information, and he didn't understand why he had to kill those two people.
However, he did not know that he would quickly realize the reason why he had been told he had to kill those two individuals.
The soft, warm voice continued to sound, but now it sounded a little strange, even a little bizarre.
"You called me mom... mom... mom... mom... mom!... MOM!"
Lucien instinctively backed up a step or two when he heard the distorted scream of the woman, who had raised her head. Tears of pus could be seen coming from the woman's dark bowls, and maggots were falling from her mouth.
The woman was shaking hard in the tree, with maggots and pus dripping from the ground horrendously and disgustingly.
Chief Niek, looking at Lucien's confusion, shouted.
"Stop hesitating, kill them before they turn into monsters! At least let them die like humans"
Lucien still resisted, why did he have to kill these two people? However, for some strange reason, pus and maggots were coming out of the orifices of his face. As someone from modern Earth, he found it difficult to take a human life.
The image of his parents even came to mind.
'Fuck, these aren't my parents!'
Filling his body with determination, Lucien, covered in cold sweat and with a complicated expression, swung the sword splitting the man's head.
The brain fell disgustingly on the floor, followed by a stream of blood splattering on his face.
"Don't kill me, Darc, I'm your mother. Don't kill me...don't kill me...don't kill me...DON'T KILL ME!"
Ignoring the distorted cry of supplication, he plunged the sword into the woman's throat choking her with her blood... and thus, he killed her.
An articulate voice, devoid of life, echoed in his mind.
[You have killed two corrupted humans, without awakening].
[You have obtained two registers: Wedding Ring, Silver Crucifix].
Lucien dropped the sword, which fell to the ground, and as he looked at the two bodies... he couldn't take it anymore and vomited.
…
Once Lucien finished vomiting, with drool running down his lip, he looked at Niek with a haggard expression. He noticed that the latter had a look of sadness, as if he was remembering the past.
'So what's next? Don't tell me I have to bury them now?'
Lucien was waiting for them to tell him what was next... but he didn't have the strength to bury these people. He was in no condition.
The shock of having taken a human life had not yet passed, and he could still hear the woman's voice saying "Mom."
Contrary to his expectations, Niek sighed heavily. He approached the two lifeless bodies and looked at them for a brief moment before picking up a shovel made of a dark material.
He hung the oil lamp on one of the tree branches and, without looking back, spoke in a hoarse, heavy voice.
"You may go and rest."
Lucien nodded silently and began to walk out of the cemetery, looking at the multiple gravestones that were not made of cement, but of wood.
They were not in the shape of a cross but were simply sticks with a small sign bearing a name, which he did not bother to read.
Before completely leaving the place, Niek's voice was heard.
"By the way, I forgot. You've been selected for the scouting party, so get some rest, because in three days we'll be leaving."
Lucien turned around only to watch as Chief Niek placed the bodies in the graves. Without a word, he continued on his way without a last glance at the cemetery.
…
Walking along the dark road of the small town, Lucien carried a lamp in his hand that gave off a yellowish light that helped him to illuminate the road. The sky continued to be just as dark, only occasionally illuminated by the rays that provided some light.
He did not know if it was day or night, but his mind was not at the moment to think about it. Now he was heading towards Darc's house, after having asked, and he was told that it was a bit far from the cemetery.
As he went along, many unfamiliar thoughts passed through his mind. A short time later Lucien saw the house that had been described to him earlier.
The house was quite simple, made of cement, with a wooden window and a matching door. Due to the darkness of the place, there was no silver, but only weeds. Upon entering, it was nothing special.
A wooden table where there was a candle that appeared to be made of human skin, with two chairs, and to the east of the house were two rooms without doors. Lucien guessed one belonged to Darc's parents.
Taking off his clothes full of blood, vomit, and pus, Lucien put the lamp on the table and then lay down on the bed, exhausted, his mind a mess. He had not rested at all since he had transmigrated.
Everything had been too hectic: from having a darkened conscience to killing two people... Although they were corrupted humans, they were still humans.
Lucien experienced too much in too little time.
Lying on the bed, he invoked his Soul File. The unfamiliar letters, but ones he understood, appeared in front of him, and he looked at the descriptions of the two registers he obtained.
