The glass paperweight shattered against the wall, the sharp crack echoing through the office. Shards of crystal rained onto the floor, reflecting the dim light. Someone probably standing behind it yelped in shock.
Jason stood across from Cael, unfazed by the outburst. The update he had just given was enough to enrage any man. He had also torn the police officer a new one when he had gotten the call.
Cael leaned forward, both palms flat on the desk, his knuckles turning white. "Let me get this straight. Not only did they lose the trackers before tracing them, but they disappeared from police evidence?"
Jason gave a tight nod. "And the ones found in Elisa's old apartment, too. The officers who logged them in swear they were there, but today… gone."
Cael felt his anger rising. One thing he hated in this life was incompetence.
"Someone covered their tracks," Cael said slowly, voice lethal.
