"No one move!" Mary yelled out looking at the doors anxiously.
The pounding continued insistently, the doors were beginning to show marks from the force being used on it.
Then abrupt silence.
Everyone sat still, the silence suffocating, it was like they were all holding their breath.
Suddenly two gunshots rang out, slicing through the suffocating silence.
Elisa flinched, her breath catching in her throat. The bunker was so silent that she could hear her own heartbeat pounding in her ears. Every pack member in the room froze, straining to listen.
Then a different kind of banging started on the heavy doors. Rhythmic, deliberate. Three knocks, a pause, then two more.
Their signal.
A wave of relief swept through the bunker, more than a few wolves let out shaky breaths. The tension lifted slightly, but Mary remained still, her shoulders taut. She exchanged a brief glance with one of the two guards in the safe room with them.
