5- A possible lover?

Vali got up from where he was laying and draped his arm around Maeve before she could answer.

"Hey I'm Vali, this is Maeve, and that's my brother Narfi over there."

Narfi waved his hand. "Thank you so much for helping us, we don't really know how to drive."

Vali gave Narfi an angry look like he didn't want to look stupid in front of people so Narfi changed the subject. "What kind of creature are you?"

Lugh laughed a little bit, "I think you noticed already that I'm from the sea."

"You're a shapeshifter." Maeve managed to say. I saw you turn from a seal into a human!"

Lugh nodded politely. "This is a land of people that carry within them many forms and secrets, however I would advise for you to stay away from the water in the future."

Maeve nodded, "ok." as if she were hypnotized. She smiled too sweetly for Vali's comfort.

Vali made a protective face. "What are you trying to do with Maeve, talking like that?"

Lugh seemed unphased by Vali's reaction and bid Maeve farewell before he stepped onto the WaveSeeker and it sped away into the mists.

Vali waved his hand across Maeve's face and tried to snap her back into reality.

"Huh?" She muttered eventually.

"That was a dangerous man, I hope we don't run into him again." Vali said. It would be best if we get out of this town.

Maeve put her fingers to her lips and pondered how she felt about the fact that this man had resuscitated her. She stared out at the misty water where she couldn't see his boat anymore.

"Did you notice that his boat moved on its own?" She asked the boys in a distant voice.

Vali crossed his arms, "Maeve let's go, it's probably just a speed boat." He took her arm and turned her away from the ocean and she followed the boys obediently without saying another word.

———

Lugh moved his boat into the water a ways before he turned around and kept it steady.

He watched the girl looking out at the water, still standing on the shore. He knew she couldn't see through the mists back at him but for a minute it felt like he wanted her to.

He wanted her to follow him into the sea, but why? She was a land creature. It didn't make sense.

Her beautiful green eyes caught his attention because he felt like they reflected the ocean in the cool morning, the time of day when he enjoyed his time on the water, with their green and grey hue it was like she was calling to him.

As the werewolf boy next to her pulled her away he smiled. Maybe she would be back, afterall their car was still under the water. His horse returned to his side once more and he grew curious a bit.

He dove into the water and his horse complained. "Master Lugh, you shouldn't go towards human things." The horse warned without opening his mouth. The sound waves carried through the water and Lugh pushed him away a bit. "They're gone now, who's going to know?" He replied back in his mind.

A while later he climbed back into his boat with a few trinkets and the backpack of the girl. He looked at them with curiosity. His horse, disapprovingly followed him home and he put him back into his barn, giving him some barley and carrots before retiring to his room to see what the objects were.

He dumped out Maeve's damp backpack and turned on a drying lamp. The warm UV light touching each object as he put them down. He examined them. One was a small bag full of seeds. He looked at them wondering what kind they were and what this girl would be doing with them. He set them aside. Then he pulled out a leather bound book with dried flowers in it. They were pressed beautifully onto different pages. The paper was a little ruined so he carefully removed the pages from its spine and placed them each onto the drying mat.

Lugh had a little box of tools he had often used when he discovered books in the ocean. He had never thought of preserving flowers like that and he hoped they weren't too ruined by the water.

Next was a small wooden chest with different pouches of dried herbs. He smelled one and it had the scent of chamomile.

He pulled out all of her clothing from the bag and tossed them into a hamper before continuing.

She had a wallet with a little bit of wet cash, some credit cards, and coins. He put the bills to dry and wiped the other objects off with a towel. The wallet contained some loose papers and finally a picture of herself and a man who wasn't one of her companions. He had red eyes and black and white hair.

They stood in front of an odd building that said police academy on it. Could he be a possible lover? Maeve wasn't touching him though, they just stood next to each other in front of a car that looked just like her green one, but this one was black.

He took a pair of scissors and cut out Maeve's damp picture. Then he pinned it to his corkboard on the wall above his desk. He looked into her green eyes for a while and decided he wanted to get to see her again.
