The moment he stepped through the massive gates, the environment changed drastically. Gone were the barren wastelands and metallic ruins; in their place was a dense forest glowing with an ethereal green light. Giant trees with twisted roots stretched toward the sky, their leaves shimmering like emeralds. The air was humid and carried the faint scent of flowers, but beneath it was a metallic tang—a reminder that this wasn't a natural world.

A system notification appeared:

He sighed. "Survive, huh? That's becoming a theme."

Moving cautiously through the forest, he scanned his surroundings, every rustle of leaves or distant growl putting him on edge. The system screen occasionally pinged with minor updates about the environment:

As he walked, he noticed strange creatures skittering through the underbrush—small, mechanical rodents with glowing eyes. They didn't attack, but their presence was unsettling.

After several minutes, he came across a cluster of glowing fruits hanging from a low branch. A notification popped up:

His stomach growled, and he realized he hadn't eaten since arriving in the Matrix. Plucking one of the fruits, he cautiously bit into it. A warmth spread through his body, and his HP bar ticked up.

As he continued deeper into the forest, the peaceful atmosphere shattered. A loud screech echoed, followed by a rustling of leaves. Before he could react, something lunged at him from the shadows.

The creature was a hybrid of a panther and a machine, its body covered in sleek black fur interwoven with metal plating. Its glowing red eyes locked onto him as it circled, its claws clicking against the ground.

"Great," he muttered, drawing his Bronze Dagger. "Another oversized predator."

The Stalker moved with lightning speed, darting in and out of the underbrush. Its first strike caught him off guard, slashing across his arm and reducing his HP by 8 points.

Gritting his teeth, he activated Overdrive Mode, his senses sharpening. The Stalker lunged again, but this time, he sidestepped, slashing at its flank. Sparks flew, and the creature roared in anger.

The battle was relentless, with the Stalker using its speed to keep him on the defensive. But his Adaptive Combat skill continued to improve, allowing him to anticipate its moves. After a tense exchange, he managed to land a critical blow to its neck, causing the creature to collapse.

Breathing heavily, he cleaned his dagger and surveyed the area. Near where the Stalker had attacked, he noticed a small device embedded in the ground. Picking it up, a notification appeared:

As he pocketed the fragment, he heard a faint humming sound in the distance. Following it, he discovered a glowing crystal structure nestled between two massive trees. A notification appeared:

Placing his hand on the crystal, he felt a surge of energy flow through him. His HP and stamina bars refilled, and a sense of calm washed over him.

> "At least the game isn't entirely cruel."

Pressing onward, the forest grew darker, the glowing light from the trees dimming. Strange whispers filled the air, though he couldn't make out the words. The atmosphere felt heavy, as if the forest itself was watching him.

A system message appeared:

His grip on the dagger tightened. The path ahead split into three, each shrouded in shadow. As he debated which way to go, a flicker of movement caught his eye. A small, glowing figure darted between the trees—a wisp-like creature, its light pulsating rhythmically.

"Are you leading me somewhere?" he asked, following it cautiously.

The wisp guided him to a clearing where another map fragment was embedded in a pedestal. Just as he reached for it, the ground shook violently, and a massive figure emerged from the shadows.

The creature was a towering humanoid made of wood and metal, its eyes glowing with an eerie green light. It held a massive staff, which it slammed into the ground, sending shockwaves rippling through the clearing.

The protagonist barely managed to dodge the shockwave, his heart pounding as the Forest Guardian loomed over him. A system notification appeared:

He tightened his grip on his dagger, adrenaline coursing through his veins.
