The map floated before him, its shimmering projection marking the location of the Core Beacon deep within the forest. With the Echo of the Labyrinth now as his companion, a newfound sense of determination burned in his chest.
The forest around him darkened, the trees twisting unnaturally as though alive. Every step felt heavier, as if the ground itself resisted him.
[New Objective: Reach the Core Beacon in the Verdant Heart.]
[Warning: The Verdant Heart is a Level 10+ Zone. Caution is advised.]
> "Level 10? I'm barely at Level 5," he muttered, gripping the Energy Blade tightly.
The Echo floated beside him, its soothing light pushing back the oppressive shadows.
"I can guide you, but the path ahead will test every aspect of your strength and resolve," the Echo said, its voice melodic and calm.
> "I don't have a choice. Let's move."
The Verdant Heart was unlike anything he had encountered before. The trees seemed alive, their gnarled branches reaching toward him as if trying to ensnare him. Strange whispers filled the air, a cacophony of voices that grew louder the deeper he ventured.
A sudden rustling in the underbrush made him freeze. Out of the shadows, a pack of wolf-like creatures emerged. Their eyes glowed green, and their fur bristled with razor-sharp thorns.
[Enemy Alert: Verdant Wolves Lv.7]
The pack circled him, their growls reverberating through the air.
"Focus on the alpha," the Echo advised. "The others will falter if you eliminate their leader."
The alpha wolf, larger than the rest, lunged at him. He sidestepped, slashing with the Energy Blade. Sparks flew as the blade glanced off the creature's hardened fur.
> "Tougher than I thought," he muttered, activating Enhanced Evasion Lv.1 to dodge another attack.
The wolves coordinated their attacks, forcing him to retreat. He focused on the alpha, aiming for its unprotected underbelly. With a precise strike, he pierced its core, the creature collapsing with a pained howl.
[Verdant Wolf Alpha Defeated. XP Gained: 150.]
[Loot Acquired: Alpha's Thorn Fur.]
The remaining wolves hesitated before retreating into the shadows.
> "One problem down. How many more to go?"
As he ventured further, the forest grew denser. A strange mist enveloped him, and the Echo began to glow brighter.
"We are approaching the first trial," it said. "To reach the Core Beacon, you must prove your worth."
A circular clearing opened before him, the mist thickening to form a spectral figure. The figure resembled a warrior clad in ancient armor, its eyes burning with green fire.
[Trial Guardian Lv.8: Spectral Warden]
[Objective: Defeat the Spectral Warden to proceed.]
The Spectral Warden raised its sword, its blade shimmering with ethereal energy. Without warning, it charged.
The first clash sent shockwaves through the air, the sheer force nearly knocking him off his feet. The Warden was relentless, its attacks precise and unyielding.
He activated Energy Shield Lv.1, the Echo's ability creating a protective barrier around him. The shield absorbed a powerful strike, giving him an opening to counterattack.
Using a combination of swift dodges and calculated strikes, he managed to chip away at the Warden's defenses. However, the longer the fight dragged on, the more aggressive the Warden became.
"Strike its core!" the Echo shouted.
Spotting a faint glow in the Warden's chest, he leapt forward, channeling all his strength into a single thrust. The Energy Blade pierced the core, shattering it.
[Spectral Warden Defeated. XP Gained: 300.]
[New Ability Unlocked: Spectral Slash Lv.1.]
With the Warden defeated, the mist began to dissipate, revealing a massive tree at the center of the clearing. Its trunk pulsed with green light, and its branches stretched toward the heavens.
"This is the Verdant Heart," the Echo said. "The Core Beacon lies within, but it is guarded by the Heart's Avatar."
As he approached the tree, a low rumble shook the ground. The roots of the tree began to move, intertwining to form a humanoid figure. The Avatar stood tall, its body made of bark and vines, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light.
[Boss Alert: Heart's Avatar Lv.10]
[Warning: This boss is significantly stronger than you. Prepare carefully before engaging.]
He took a deep breath, checking his inventory. The loot from the wolves and the Warden gave him enough resources to craft a new piece of gear.
[Crafting Completed: Thorn-Infused Armor.]
Defense +10
Thorn Retribution: Deals damage to attackers upon contact.
Donning the new armor, he gripped his Energy Blade tightly.
> "This might be suicide, but I've come too far to back down now."
The Avatar let out an earth-shaking roar, vines lashing out as it prepared to attack. He steadied himself, the Echo's light growing brighter beside him.
> "Let's end this," he said, charging forward.
