Chapter 44: Why did you do that?

Its been 8 years since this hell began. Every morning It feels my body is aching and twisting my muscles into pieces every damn second. The voices that keeps on repeating my name over and over again are starting to actually affect my own well being.

Are they repeating because I sought after silence?

Are they repeating because I love isolating myself?

Are they repeating because I want to kill the Leviathans?

Are they repeating because the only thing that keeps me going in this damn forsaken world is the love of feeling leviathan flesh bleeding in-between my fingers as i clench my hand?

I want the Leviathan's to die out.

I want every one of them gone from the seas.

I want them to perish like they never were part of our ancestor's history books.

Ah Yes.

Now I know why the voices keep repeating my name.

They are repeating my name because they're reminding me just of who I am.

I'm Solan.

The one — that will be the last human face the murderous beasts will ever see before their souls sink into the abyss and die.

"Solan!"

A voice echoed through the silence of my own dialogues. Amusingly it didn't sound like 'those' voices.. but a manlier voice with an actual soul behind it, a voice with a pure intention and hope. It wasn't as nauseating and braindead as the previous voices.

"Get your act together!".

'What the hell's wrong with this kid!"

Benedict asked himself standing opposed to Solan's possessed body.

The only thing between the two stood a hungry wild beast that could probably swallow up everything it watched. Solan's face was covered by a radiating darkness — his mouth entirely wide like the smile of a wolf and the eyes of a crazed bear.

There was only two options the powerful man Benedict could think to himself.

Kill him. His name and existence only becoming a whisper between the people who actually had met him.

Or let Solan fight that possession by himself but stay as a distract in the meantime.

The right option was pretty obvious right?

Find a third option! and beat the fuck out of this kid until he get back to his senses!

With his fist readied into a stance he inhaled a breath of reluctance.

"I'm sorry Solan, please forgive me".

-Smash-

With a heavy step Benedict's right foot left a heavy mark on the ground and leaped at Solan with a speed so unimaginable fast that even the boy himself couldn't see what was coming.

-Smash!-

His fist hit Solan's stomach hard to the point the darkness that had consumed his face disappeared in just a blink of an eye.

"Oh... was it that simple?"

Benedict asked himself not sure if there was anything more to it. He had expected some darker and mysterious force to unravel the surface of Solan's body to tell him some dark history.

As Solan was launched into the wall for a third time.

Rising slowly up back up again Benedict was retained his guard.

Unsure of what his next move could he was fast back to realize Solan seemed completely normal.

"...Why's my stomach hurting" Solan asked.

It felt like something had hit him hard, contemplating between his hunger if something physical had hit.

"Ah..".

Benedict took a quick breather feeling relived.

"I hit you, that's why".

"Really? I must've gone crazy for a moment".

"Well you did try attack me".

Solan couldn't remember anything. It felt like a blackout his mind foggy.

For a moment, It felt like my entire body was hurting. I can only remember what a slight dialogue between me myself an I, except for that my mind is dark. Was it my vessel reaction or is there something here that has a close connection.

-Swosh~-

It was cold, there was a breezing within this cave which I hadn't expected. This place feels familiar somehow but there's no hints to what this place really is. Lone pillars, a fountain... Theres nothing else I can possible do right now.

"Admiral, we should write a report about this place...".

"...Like a classified report?"

"This place seems ancient, once we have researcher Trevon know of this place he'll figure it out at some point".

"Well... That man is something that's for sure".

Benedict didn't know what to think of the recent situation. Just one moment ago this guy had the full intentions to kill him yet he was back to himself now.

"...This boy... He's totally a lunatic".

Walking out of the cave again the members stood waiting outside the cave.

The members seemed highly on guard with Solan arriving too.

"Everything is fine, Solan just had a slight episode...".

The members turned to each other, nervous and cautious before Benedict then pointed out there was still a mission in hand. Solan and Benedict had come to an conclusion that what he saw is to be closed off to anyone. As for the mysterious place that seemed untouched for decades a written report would be sent back to the marines via a messenger bird.

[1 day later]

Next morning I continued my lone patrol around Komod. The streets were packed and occasionally I could see the sky members doing the same as me. My head was quiet, there were no sound of the distant echoes which made me feel better.

It felt like a good day.

The sky was covered by a dark gray weather, maybe it would've rain later on or even worse — start thundering. One the thing was sure enough, today would be a busy day.

The admiral along with his other officials was visiting the official palace within the city investigating from within whilst the rest were investigating from outside. You could never be sure who really takes parts in human trafficking, the high-class here apparently holds a similarity in culture to the mainland ones according to Benedict. There was a huge case three generations ago in Daimon where nobles bought slaves or illegally hunted Leviathans to their own collections which caused a massive problem for the marines for years.

It was hard to arrest and jail those who bought illegally because many of them were pillars that hold's up the daimon's economy. The household's family had no choice but to give their assets to the marines and were jailed for life, the ruler of the next head was decided by their sons who were younger. Hence why the same children of those son's has grown to be corrupt — its in their blood.

Fortunately the members of the sky division can have a better attitude and air about them. Some of them are from Daimon yet they don't act like the others soldiers — You can guess that they've been in the game for a while, killing people for a living makes you see things in another light.

"Hey! come back here!"

The loud shout from across the street was viable.

There was a man wearing a overdramatically cloak that almost begged for attention. Wearing a hood over the man's face wasn't visible, the only exterior parts that I could see was his rough hands holding onto a little girl's arm.

Just looking at the little girl she was scared.

"Don't try runaway!"

The overdramatic clothed guy was in a bad mood. Why was he shouting at a little girl in the middle of the street? Looking at the differences the man was hiding his identity while the younger girl was clad in worn clothes — There's no way that's her father.

I had second thoughts about stepping in. Luckily there were a few guys walking ahead of me so the commotion wouldn't have noticed me yet. I made my way to a nearby alley to my left to hide from the people, half my body was out of the alley whilst the other half was submerged in the shadow.

"If they see my uniform the scene would de-escalate unfortunately".

Its worth the wait to see if I can beat the guy or if its just a father who likes to overdress yelling at his child.

"Its them isn't it?"

My ear that was out of the alley listened into the conversation between a couple standing by their vendor to the side of the street.

"That dress, hes among 'those'"

"Yeah... that girl must be their next target".

"..Those? next target?" Was my first thought.

"Poor girl, she must've ran off when they tried to take her".

It was easy to put the pieces together. Take her? are they saying that this is a daylight kidnapping? None of the locals were doing anything but continue on with their business yet they were subtly watching the scene unfolding between them. If this guy is part of that criminal organization we've come here for he sure must be an idiot to shout whilst the marines are present on Komod.

No... He's just careless, I spoke earlier today with the patrolling members and nobody was headed towards this sector of Komod which left this place all for myself. This place is more enclosed unlike the more open areas of the city, there's no way the other members would come here with their noble insights.

The overdressed man started shouting again, like he wanted the world to hear him.

"There's no use of a stubborn and disobeying girl like you! If you try escape again we'll make you into future prostitute!".

"....".

"....What?"
