Chapter 16: Intimate Seduction

"I'm sorry, not a single photo is allowed. This is a major incident! And there's no need for you to stay at a hotel; the police station will arrange accommodation for you and list you as a key protection target!"

"Key protection target?" Should I say I'm honored? "What's the difference between this and being under surveillance or imprisoned?"

"We suspect you're being targeted for assassination, so we must protect you!" As he spoke, he waved over a police officer who had just arrived.

When I saw who was approaching, I couldn't help but curse under my breath. It was the officer who had interrogated me for fifteen hours—Dene William! "He's the detective handling this case..."

"No need for introductions. I'd recognize him even if he were turned to ashes!"

Most importantly, I was afraid he would question me about the ring, which made me feel somewhat guilty.

Strangely, Dene William just glanced at me, then turned away, casually inspecting the scene as if nothing had happened. He tossed me a line, "If you're not busy, you can wait in the police car for a while, so you don't have to see me get angry!"

I sneered, "You're such a considerate and good police officer!"

"Few people praise me!" he snorted.

"You misunderstood. I was insulting you."

Walking out of the ruins, I looked despondently at the entire house, just glad that Bevis hadn't returned. He must still be alive and well somewhere.

Just as I was about to call Bevis, Baron Albert stopped me. He handed me a written note with strong, classical calligraphy strokes, "This was done by the vampires. It seems their target is either you or Bevis. If Bevis doesn't contact you, don't reach out to him for now."

"Why? I haven't provoked them!" I glanced warily at the surrounding police, then looked up and mouthed to him.

He frowned, leaned closer, and whispered, "If you haven't provoked them, then Bevis has..."

His cold aura made me inexplicably nervous, but I didn't feel frightened.

I could even smell the fragrance of the rose on his suit pocket. My mind went blank, not paying attention to what he was saying, but his bewitching voice resonated deep within my heart, stirring a flutter of emotions.

I stared dumbly at his perfectly proportioned, sensual lips, just wanting to give them a light kiss.

"Margie, are you listening to me?"

Hearing his voice, I snapped out of it, "Uh... what? I... no, I wasn't going to kiss you!"

He raised an eyebrow playfully, teasing and mocking, "I didn't say you were going to kiss me! Your mind is really in the gutter. You should confess to the police that you were about to make a pass at me!"

My ears burned, and I cursed softly, touching my forehead. Damn it, what just happened to me?

It must have been that damn vampire hypnotizing me!

"Huh? So... what did you just say?"
