Lu Feiyu informed her family about her decision to marry Chu Zhiwei. Hearing this, Jun Lianhua frowned and asked, "Sister-in-law, don't you want us to attend your wedding?"
Lu Feiyu nodded. "These are just formalities and a waste of time for both of us. Just send us red packets on the day we get married—that's enough. Also, Mom, don't even think of pressuring us to have kids. He and I have decided to be a DINK couple."
Lu Haoran shuddered. "What? You want to be a DINK couple?"
Chu Zhiwei gently held Lu Feiyu's arm and said, "Brother-in-law, actually, it's my fault…" As he was about to continue, Lu Feiyu pinched his hand, signaling him to stop.
Chu Zhiwei sighed and shook his head. "We're all family. They have the right to know."
Lu Qianyu felt an ominous premonition. Placing a hand on her chest, she took a deep breath. "What happened? Why are you talking like this?"
Lu Feiyu waved dismissively. "Mom, it's nothing. He's just making a big deal out of a small matter…"
But Chu Zhiwei continued, "Mom, Feiyu had an accident a year ago. The doctors had to remove her uterus because of it."
"What?!"
Everyone was stunned. They immediately rushed forward, concerned, asking Lu Feiyu about her condition.
A sudden cry broke the tense atmosphere. Jun Lianhua stood up. "I'll go check on her."
Meanwhile, Lu Zhenhai looked at Feiyu with a stern yet worried expression. "Even your niece is worried about you. Why didn't you tell us you had an accident?"
Lu Qianyu pinched Feiyu's ear, pulling it up. "You think you're all grown up now? Hiding things from your own family?"
"Ah! Ah! Mom, that hurts! Stop it! You're already a grandmother, and you're still doing this?!"
Lu Haoran gently pulled his mother's hand away. "Mom, let's listen to her first."
Everyone sat down as Chu Zhiwei and Lu Feiyu began to explain.
A year ago, while conducting an experiment in the laboratory, Lu Feiyu accidentally spilled some chemicals on her lab coat and went to the bathroom to change.
In that brief moment, a group of terrorists attacked the lab, aiming to destroy their research and kidnap Chu Zhiwei. To protect him, Lu Feiyu was shot in the lower abdomen, resulting in severe blood loss. To prevent organ failure, the doctors had to remove her uterus.
Chu Zhiwei's voice softened as he continued, "She can't have children now, and I couldn't bear to see her suffer alone. So, while she was recovering, I underwent a vasectomy."
Silence filled the room as everyone processed the revelation.
Lu Feiyu waved her hand dismissively. "I told you, it's fine—you're all making a big deal out of it. Besides, even before this accident, I had no intention of having children. We discussed this during our early dating years."
She glanced at her family and continued, "Our wealth can be passed on to Brother and Sister-in-law's children. As for our patents and research, whichever child of brother's is passionate like us in developing the country should take care of them. So, Brother, you'll have to train one of your children to become a scientist like me."
Lu Haoran's eyes welled up, but his stubbornness wouldn't let the tears fall. Instead, he responded in a perfunctory manner, "Fine, fine… Let's see how it goes."
Meanwhile, Jun Lianhua walked into the children's room and found Lu Yingyu crying loudly, her tiny fists clenched as she wailed. In contrast, Lu Yuqing turned over and slept peacefully, completely unbothered by her sister's fussing. Jun Lianhua sighed and gently picked up her second daughter, rocking her in her arms to soothe her. "Hush now, Yingyu. It's alright, Mommy's here - look" she murmured, patting the child's back.
Once Yingyu calmed down, Jun Lianhua carried her out of the nursery and into the living room, where the entire family was gathered. As she entered, Lu Feiyu immediately noticed that she was carrying only one child.
"What about the other one?" Feiyu asked, raising an eyebrow. "Wasn't she crying too?"
Jun Lianhua chuckled. "Not at all. She wasn't even the least bit bothered that her sister was crying.
When I went in, I saw that she had turned to the other side and gone right back to sleep. Only this little one was making trouble." She glanced down at Yingyu, who had finally stopped crying and was now content in her arms. "But now, I think she's fine."
Lu Feiyu smirked. "Ha! Seems like my eldest niece isn't concerned about me at all. Only my second niece truly cares for me." With that, she reached out to take Lu Yingyu into her arms. To everyone's surprise, the baby didn't cry.
Lu Yingyu blinked her big, round eyes as she stared at Feiyu's face for a moment. Then, as if reassured by the familiar presence, she snuggled against Feiyu and fell asleep within seconds.
A small laugh escaped Chu Zhiwei as he observed the scene. "Looks like your second niece is really happy with you. She's sleeping so peacefully in your arms."
Feiyu lifted her chin proudly. "Of course! I'm her aunt - she obviously likes me. Maybe she'll grow up to be like me, a scientist!" The thought sparked an idea in her mind, and she turned to her brother with a playful glint in her eyes.
"Brother," she said, tilting her head, "since my second niece likes me so much, why don't you let me adopt her as my own child?"
Lu Haoran, who had been casually listening up until now, suddenly snapped to attention. His eyes widened in shock. In a flash, like a cheetah protecting its cub, he swooped in and scooped Lu Yingyu from Feiyu's arms, holding her securely against his chest.
"No way!" he declared firmly. "This is my child. There's no chance I'm giving her to you and letting you turn her into a mad scientist like yourself! I can't bear it."
The room erupted into laughter at his dramatic reaction.
Jun Lianhua shook her head in amusement, patting Haoran's shoulder. "Look at your sister's face," she teased. "She was just joking, and you fell right into her trap."
Lu Feiyu pouted. "Hmph! I was serious, though."
"Not happening," Haoran said, holding his daughter protectively, as laughter filled the room once again.
Lu Feiyu raised her hands in surrender and sighed. "Fine, fine! I'm not taking your daughter away. But at least let me hold her for a little while. I won't have much time to spend with her during her childhood."
She looked at Lu Haoran expectantly, and after a moment of hesitation, he sighed and gently placed Lu Yingyu back into her arms. Feiyu cradled the baby carefully, her expression softening as she gazed at her tiny niece. "You better remember your cool aunt, okay?" she whispered, rocking her gently.
After spending some time together, Both Chu Zhiwei and Lu Feiyu left together with few things given by the family.
