Chapter 14: Strong To Believe

James and Hassan stood in the smoldering ruins of the battle, their breaths coming heavy in the aftermath of the carnage. Reinforcements from the government were already shoring up the area, securing what was once Kane's stronghold. Kane stood, still bound and fuming with anger, being dragged away by armed agents. It was a substantial gain, and James knew it was too far from the end. The government's secure facility was the team's final rallying point. Everyone resided in their own little world until Sarah's words broke the silence. "We've done it forged Kane's empire and splintered the syndicate. But there's something I can't get my head around." Lina was at a desk near James, her laptop working overtime. "I understand the feeling. I was going over Kane's files, trying to decrypt them, when I ran into a vulnerability." "How about," James inquired. Lina spun the laptop around and displayed a map of Kane's myriad of connected syndicate cells. "That wasn't the mastermind's scheme; he's just the Henchman The true mastermind is another person who has already united and is ready to rebuild." Hassan's scowl deepened. "Only sheared a branch from the tree?" "Exactly." Lina gesticulated toward the laptop's screen. "There's a name that keeps emerging throughout it: "The Broker." It's coordinating the syndicate from crime across the globe. We may not win if we don't finish him." James sat up alone at the end of the evening, staring at the stars from their secure vantage outpost. Sarah approached quietly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "How are you doing?" she inquired. James didn't look at her, instead shaking his head. "I'm exhausted," I replied. "Every time we advance, it appears that the enemy is three steps ahead of us." Sarah sat beside him. "You've accomplished so much, James. You've given people and myself hope." James turned to her, allowing his softer side to show through. "And I couldn't have done it without all of you. This isn't just my crime – it's yours.

Sarah smiled. "Then let's complete it together."

The next morning, Lina dropped more intel she explained she experienced uncovered. "The Broker is in the middle of a secret meeting in a remote location to reorganize the way the syndicate does business. If we can catch them, we can take down the whole leadership apparatus in one blow.'

James considered the plan. "It's a risky move, but it's our best shot. We've got to move on that quickly before they re-establish themselves."

The team got ready for what they knew could be their most dangerous mission yet. Sara cleaned her sniper rifle. Hassan checked the bomb and changes made to the explosive. Lina worked hard to finalize their infiltration plan.

As they were suiting up, James spoke to the crowd. "We've made it this far because we believed in something bigger than us. This mission isn't only about taking down the syndicate it's about saving the ones who can't save themselves. Through thick and thin, we stand together. Agreed?"

"Agreed," they responded in chorus.

The team's determination, unshakeable as it embarked on the next mission. With each step they took, they realized they were entering enemy territory. But James, and Sarah, and Hassan, and Lina were all together, ready for whatever may come.

The fight wasn't finished but they were ready to end it.
