Chapter 37

Sliding open the door of his former room, Sunny wore a grin on his face that never seemed to fade after his bout with Mordret. The fight was interesting to say the least, Sunny had never gotten the opportunity to fight someone who was truly his equal in his life.

To make it worse, the tempest of fury which he had directed against Mordret seemed to fade upon the bout ending, only being replaced with anticipation as Sunny awaited the ball with impatience riddled on his mind.

'Maybe if I... no, that would get me killed. But I'm sure if I...' Sunny's thoughts continued to take this pattern as he rushed through hypothetical scenario's on how to beat Mordret. In the end, each one ended with the two killing one another. To say Sunny was dissatisfied would be an understatement, yet he still couldn't find anything to make him angry.

Sitting on his bed, alongside Nephis who wore a dark expression across her face, Sunny unpacked several food items he had managed to procure before laying them out on the mattress. "Neph, I bought you the food." Sunny called, yet Nephis continued to stare blankly at the wall.

Suddenly, she turned around and blitzed toward him, roughly grabbing his arm, Nephis studied his wrists and arms with a frown painted across her face before letting go of him. "Sunny, what happened in this room?" Unclear what she was asking, Sunny cocked his head to the side while trying to stammer out a vague reply, yet Nephis didn't let him.

Reaching into the pile of clothes, which was once neatly arranged but now a loose pile which had obviously been tampered with, Nephis removed a small knife from the pile and gripped it in her hands firmly before making her way toward Sunny.

"You almost had me fooled, I thought this was something you've done to yourself in the past but now, it's so obvious that it was recent. All your clothes are exactly your size, and they smell just like you too. And the lantern, it's been used recently. Why would you carry a lighter on hand otherwise?"

Stalking over to Sunny, who had been stunned into silence at her deduction, Sunny watched as tears welled up into her eyes as she collapsed onto him. "Sunny, why are you hurting yourself? Why are you doing this? Why didn't you tell me?" Tears cascaded from her eyes as Sunny pulled her close, enveloping her in his grip as she bawled into his arms.

"I... was using it to forget someone. I didn't want to make you worry and I thought you wouldn't find out, I promise I'll stop you have to believe me!" Sunny pleaded to Nephis as her tears only increased, her hands wrapped around his wrists, running her smooth, cold fingers across them as she pushed him to the mattress.

"Swear to me, swear to me you'll never hide anything like this from me again!" She screamed, pinning Sunny down as tears continued to fall onto his face. Sunny nodded slightly, yet upon noticing her grip didn't relax, he was forced to utter an answer.

"I swear I'll never do this again; I swear to you. Please, just stop crying." Nephis stared at him for a few moments before collapsing onto him, Sunny's warm embrace radiating through her body as she took a moment to gather herself. After thirty minutes of silence, Nephis finally started on her food as her eyes widened at its taste.

Turning to Sunny, she noticed that he was sitting in the corner of the room with a small smile on his face, his eyes widened slightly as he placed his hand over his mouth in contemplation. "Who are you and what happened to Sunny." Nephis commented sarcastically, Sunny stared up at her with a puzzled expression before she sighed.

"Sorry, I've just never seen you pull a face like that before. What happened while you were out?" Sunny's puzzled expression only deepened, as he made his way toward her and gently took her phone from her hands. Then, after shifting it to the selfie camera Sunny almost threw the phone in shock.

Bursting out into a fit of laughter, Nephis held her sides as tears bit at the corners of her eyes, threatening to escape should she go on any longer. "I fought Mordret. It was interesting." Sunny mumbled out, Nephis caught it immediately though as her laughter quickly subsided, as she scanned his form with worry.

Noticing her expression, Sunny pulled up his shirt, revealing his toned stomach as he bit his shirt in his mouth to keep it stable. "See! I'm fine, no need to worry!" Sunny mumbled out as his mouth was muffled. Meanwhile, Nephis mind was thrown into panic mode upon seeing him do that.

'I want to run my hands on his abs... no, I won't stop there. Why does he even need a shirt anyways? We weren't born with clothes, right? Its only natural.' Nephis thoughts quickly came to a stop as Sunny pulled down his shirt, his smile still present on his face.

"I thought you... hated him. Why are you so... happy? And more importantly, how strong is he?" Sunny listened to her attentively as he flopped over and laid his head on her thighs, staring up at her with a smile still present on his face as he played with her hair.

"I'm supposed to hate him, I want to hate him, yet after fighting him I only want to fight him again. It's not even that I'm happy... I'm just excited? If that makes any sense." Pausing contemplatively, Sunny raised a hand to his chin as he thought of a method to answer Nephis next question.

"If you fought him, you'd die before you knew what happened. We almost killed each other when we fought, I'm sure we would have if we went any further." Nodding silently, Nephis thoughts quickly shifted from serious to flustered as Sunny took in the scent of her shampoo, running his fingers through her locks idly as he stared up at her.

"At least you're in a good mood. I worry about you sometimes; you always bottle things up and keep it in your heart till it reaches a boiling point. I'm your girlfriend and I love you, so never be afraid to tell me what's going on, talk to me first."

Her voice was firm and stern, yet it only brought Sunny comfort as he rolled Nephis over so her back could be placed on the mattress. Laying his head on her arm, Sunny nuzzled into her side like a cat who had been lost in the cold with a small smile on his face.

A stretch of comfortable silence settled between the two as Nephis felt Sunny's breathing slow, his beating heart calming down as she glanced downward at him. Shifting her weight, she made sure not to wake him up as she stared down at his slender features.

'You're making me want to kiss you in your sleep. Can't you just wake up and kiss me already!?' As if obliging to her thoughts, Sunny's eyes slowly opened, his hand snaking its way around Nephis head before pulling her head downward. Their lips met for minutes before Sunny pulled back.

"Since you've kissed me while barely lucid, I'll assume you're in a good enough mood to answer my question." Nephis whispered. Slowly sitting up, Sunny turned to Nephis groggily before wiping his eyes with his hands. "Question? What do you want to know Neph?"

Swallowing the lump in her throat, Nephis gripped the tiny mattress the two barely were able to share as she prepared herself for a question which may ruin Sunny's mood for the rest of the week. Steeling herself, her lips moved as she watched Sunny's face turn into an ugly grimace.

"Who's Eubin?"
