chapter 12: I am not your woman

Alice rarely fell ill, and for the sake of her children, she dared not fall ill, let alone suddenly faint for three days, something that had never happened before.

She thought her body was still fine, but after being targeted by the devil Adam upon returning to the country, she fell seriously ill in just half a month.

The shock and pressure on her mental and physical health, coupled with catching a cold, was definitely too much for her to handle...

"Let's start with some liquid food!" Abigail took the food from the maid and fed Alice.

The maid propped up Alice's pillow to make her more comfortable.

Alice was a little stunned to see Abigail feeding her personally.

Abigail smiled, "It's okay, taking care of your recovery is also my job."

Alice didn't say anything and ate the food when it was brought to her.

She felt weak all over, her eyes hurt, and she had no appetite, but for the sake of her children, she could endure anything…After finishing her meal, Alice leaned back on her pillow and closed her eyes, falling asleep soon after.

When she woke up again, Abigail was giving her an IV drip.

"Are you feeling better now that you're awake?"

"Yes, thank you," Alice said.

"It's no trouble. After these two bags of fluid are finished, you can get out of bed tomorrow."

Alice looked at Abigail, who was completely different from Adam, with a compassionate and virtuous character.

However, as Adam's personal doctor, could she really be trusted without any doubt? Of course not, Alice wasn't that naive.

"After I recover, can I go out for a walk?" Alice asked weakly.

Abigail looked at her with a complicated expression. "Do you mean outside the palace garden?"

It's not surprising that she asked that, considering what happened in the hospital. She remembered it all too well.

Being caught and beaten by Adam, wasn't that how it went?

It's terrifying to anger Adam…"I'm sorry, I can't make that decision. I'm only responsible for your health," Abigail said truthfully.

She didn't have that much power with Adam, no one did.

Adam was all-powerful, and no one dared to challenge his authority.

Although Abigail felt sorry for the girl, she wouldn't risk her career to help her.

Alice got up in a panic and grabbed Abigail's hand with both of hers!

Abigail was startled. "Be careful with your hand..." There were still needles in the back of her hand!

But Alice seemed not to feel it at all. She looked at her with tears in her eyes and begged, "Dr. Song, please! I don't have any other intentions, and I'm not trying to escape. It's just that I feel so uncomfortable staying here every day. I think...I think I'm getting depressed. You're a doctor, saving lives is your duty. Don't let me die of depression, can you?

You just need to tell Adam that I have a tendency towards depression, and then...then I can go out and find a job to enrich myself. It's easy for you to do, and it won't cause any trouble. Can you do that for me?"Abigail thought to herself that it wasn't a big deal to just mention it to Adam, since the final decision wasn't hers anyway.

"I'll talk to him," she said.

"Thank you...thank you!" Alice breathed a sigh of relief, her excitement palpable.

Late at night, Abigail left Alice's room and went downstairs to the living room, where Adam was sitting on the couch in a black suit, his long legs crossed at the ankles, exuding a deep and intimidating aura.

"How is she?" Adam asked, his right elbow resting on the armrest and a glass of wine in his hand, his voice low and commanding.

"She's going to be okay in a couple of days. But..." Abigail hesitated, feeling Adam's cold and piercing gaze on her. "Her mood isn't very good, and she's a bit depressed. I asked her if she wanted to go outside for a walk, she hasn't been out in a long time..."

Adam's dark eyes were inscrutable, his expression unchanged. "Did she say anything else?"

"No," Abigail replied, sensing Adam's silence. "I'll go back to the hospital now."

Alice had slept too much during the day and couldn't fall asleep atnight. As she sensed the uneasy turbulence in the air, she instinctively tensed up, familiar with the dangerous atmosphere that signaled his presence.

She didn't need to turn around to know who it was...

Alice turned around and shrank back at the sight of the tall figure that suddenly appeared, including her fragile body that was not able to withstand any attack at the moment.

"Wanna go out?" Adam looked at her coldly.

Alice instinctively bit her lip, a reaction of fear.

Nothing is scarier than facing this dangerous man, Adam!

Her jaw was suddenly clamped down and pressed against the pillow, and she felt like she was enveloped in darkness.

"Hmm!" Alice frowned, trembling as she faced the devil above her.

"Want to escape? Huh?" Adam stared at her, as if trying to force her into the deepest part of the bed. His dark eyes turned deep and inscrutable. "Perhaps, if you use your ways to please a man, you might have a chance."

As he spoke, he directly lifted the quilt on the bed.

"Ah!" Alice's two slender and beautiful legs under her nightgown instinctively curled up in extreme fear. "Don't…""Not like no one has touched you before. I just want to check!"

"No...no, please, don't do this..." Alice's tears were scared out of her as she reached out to grab the blanket.

Adam's eyes narrowed as he grabbed her face and pushed her down.

"Ah!" Alice fell onto the bed, revealing her shoulders and legs, trying to cover up the temptation. "Don't! Adam, I don't feel well, please don't..."

Her face was pale.

If Adam found out she was lying, he would kill her!

"I'm doing this for your comfort?" Adam squeezed her face tightly, his voice cold.

Alice's cheekbones were in pain from being crushed, and she knew she couldn't fight him. She endured the fear and said, "No, I'm just not fully recovered yet. If I get a fever again, it will be troublesome...I'm sure you don't want me to die so soon, do you?"

"At least you're thinking about me," Adam stared at her with a changing expression.

Alice bit her lip tightly and dared not speak.

The powerful pressure in the air made her breathless, and even Adam's movements made her tremble with fear.

Adam stood up straight and stood at the edge of the bed, his aura carrying a sense of oppression. "Don't try to play tricks on me, otherwise, I will make you wish you were dead!"

After the warning, he turned and left.

As she heard the door close, Alice finally let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and collapsed onto the bed.

Analyzing Adam's words, was her current situation not already a fate worse than death?
