Chapter 29: It feels like doing something bad

The next day, Alice sent a message to Ethan and her aunt to let them know she was safe, so they wouldn't worry.

In truth, Alice didn't really want to go to the plastic surgery hospital. After all, there were still fifteen days left, and she could just leave quietly then. These fifteen days would be wasted if she didn't go, but if she did, it would raise Adam's suspicions.

When Alice arrived at the hospital, Claire saw her and immediately started to mock her. "Oh, it's not easy to see you here. Is your period over?"

"Yes, it is," Alice replied, trying to keep her cool.

"You're such a baby. I don't know why the company keeps someone like you. They even made accommodations for you. You're really unlucky!" Claire finished and walked away, swaying her hips.

Alice frowned. Was she looking for a fight? But her situation really was uncomfortable. If everyone took time off for their periods, things would be a mess. But she couldn't say anything...

That night, Ethan drove his car to the outside of the community and called Alice. "I'm outside. I want to see you."

"You can't come. Adam will find out. The community is monitored,"Alice said, afraid.

She didn't understand why Ethan wanted to see her. Wasn't he afraid of angering the cold and ruthless Adam again?

"Alice, I'm worried about you. Just take a look," he said.

Alice hesitated. "You drive to the back door and avoid the surveillance. I'll go down."

"Okay."

Alice went down the emergency staircase.

As soon as she reached the back door, she saw a familiar Porsche parked by the roadside. Ethan was leaning against the car.

Under the streetlight, he looked like a flawless male model.

"Alice!"

Alice walked over. "I saw it. I'm fine."

"What happened? Did Adam lock you up?" Ethan asked.

"He took my passport. I wanted to leave the country with it, but he found out..." Alice lowered her gaze.

"Yeah, leaving the country is the only way to escape the endless sea of people," Ethan said, understanding the severity of the situation.

If he could communicate with Adam, it would be fine, but he couldn't. Moreover, Adam now had supreme power, and it was too easy for him to control someone.

"I'll help you!" Ethan said.

Alice was taken aback, moved, but also hesitant. "Adam is very scary. He doesn't even care about his own father. If he finds out that you helped me escape, how could he let you go?"

"Can he even kill me? Don't worry, I'm not that fragile," Ethan reassured her. "As long as I can help you get out of trouble and escape, everything is worth it. I only have one request. After you leave the country, don't forget to contact me. When I'm on a business trip, we can have a meal together."

Alice could handle her passport on her own, but she wasn't sure about escaping.

The unknown journey made her uneasy.

"Let's talk about it later, okay? I haven't made up my mind yet..." Alice didn't shut the door completely, maybe she really needed Ethan's help.

"Sure, just give me a call anytime."Alice nodded.

Looking around, she said, "You should go back early, don't stay too long."

Ethan chuckled, "Why does it feel like we're doing something bad?"

Alice forced a smile, "Are we really that bad? Sometimes I don't even know what I did wrong, life is just so hard..."

"It will get better, you have to have faith in yourself, and I'll always be by your side."

With a determined spirit, Alice went to work, waiting for the day to come.

Ethan was different from her aunt, he could definitely help her.

In the morning, she took the subway to the station.

As she was going down the stairs, a middle-aged woman carrying fruit brushed past her.

Alice's right foot stopped on the step, and she turned around in shock.

The woman went up the stairs, seemingly unaware of anything unusual.

Breathing heavily, Alice watched the woman's back, forgetting tocome back to reality.

Was that... her mother?

How could it be? Didn't her mother pass away?

But what about that person just now...?

Was it just her imagination?

As the woman ascended the final step, Alice snapped out of her daze and hurried to catch up.

She followed the woman all the way to the entrance of a run-down apartment complex.

There was no proper security guard, and the woman only realized something was wrong when she took out her keys to unlock the door.

Turning around, she saw Alice's face and panicked, dropping her bag of fruit and spilling it all over the ground.

Tears welled up in Alice's eyes. "It's really you..."

But Mia denied it, bending down to pick up the fruit. "I don't know you!"

"Do I not even know my own mother?" Alice choked out.Mia froze as she picked up the fruit.

"Did Dad and the doctor lie to me about you dying in a car accident?" Alice asked.

She was still in elementary school when she heard that her mother had died in a car accident. She went to the hospital, but never saw her mother. The doctor and her father told her that her mother had died.

She wanted to see her mother, but her father forcibly took her home. No matter how much she cried and begged, she eventually had to accept the sad truth...

Mia knew she had been recognized and denying it was useless. She finally mustered up the courage to face Alice, tears streaming down her face.

Her breathing was shaky. "Your father and I couldn't make it work. I left after the car accident. Later, I heard that your aunt was taking care of you. She married a wealthy man, so your life should be better now..."

"How can this be the same?" Alice questioned. "You can just abandon your own daughter like that? You know what kind of person Dad is!"

Mia hung her head low, only saying sorry, without saying anything else.Alice couldn't bear it and tears streamed down her face. She stubbornly wiped them away. "Is it because it's hard to get married with a daughter?"

"...Yes."

"Are you married?" Alice asked, enduring the pain.

"No."

"So, just now, you didn't want to acknowledge me, did you?"

"I'm sorry..."

"I don't want apologies!"

Alice was so angry that she ran out of the community and headed towards the subway station.

Along the way, her vision was clear and then blurry.

She never expected her mother to still be alive, and even in Star City!

Alice felt uncomfortable and wronged, making it difficult for her to face it.

If...if her mother took her away, how could she have entered the Davis Family, and she wouldn't have been stalked by the devil, Adam!In these few days, the fact that her mother was still alive made Alice's emotions distracted. She didn't know how to handle the mother-daughter relationship that had been deceived and estranged for more than ten years.

Meanwhile, the three cute little ones in a foreign country already had their own thoughts.

Lily lay softly on the bed, her baby face chubby and cute, with a hint of grievance. She said to her brothers, "I think Mom won't come back…"
