Chapter 45: The Might of a Mage

Deep into the night!

Corvinus was not resting. If he wasn't resting, then Tyton, Cadia, and Gava had even less chance of catching any sleep.

The four of them were munching on the dried meat sent over by the elven noble, discussing matters of the wilderness and beyond. Through Gava and Tyton, Corvinus had managed to get a rough understanding of the situation in the northern wilderness and the regions outside it.

At that moment, Fenrir approached Corvinus. He patted the wolf's head curiously and said, "You've walked a heavenly path. Instead of resting, what brings you here?"

The conversation between Cadia and the others was interrupted by Fenrir's arrival, and they all turned to look at the wolf.

In response to Corvinus's question, the highly intelligent Fenrir opened his large mouth, took Corvinus's arm in it, and tried to tug him to his feet.

"What's going on?" Corvinus asked, puzzled.

Although Fenrir was a fourth-tier magical beast, a journey of over a hundred miles would still leave him exhausted, especially carrying several hundred pounds on his back.

Why was he tugging at Corvinus instead of sleeping?

Seeing Corvinus stand up, Fenrir looked into the distance and let out a low growl.

At the sound of Fenrir's growl, both Cadia and Tyton were on their feet in an instant, while Gava, the boar man, remained bewildered.

Corvinus's face turned serious as he said, "Quick, get everyone up and ready for battle!"

"Yes, sir!"

Without hesitation, one of them went to wake the resting werewolf warriors, while the other checked on the werewolf guards stationed around the camp.

"What's happening, my lord?" Gava asked cautiously, completely confused as he got to his feet.

"There might be hunters tracking us!" Corvinus said, gazing into the pitch-black distance.

Although werewolves had exceptional night vision, the distance was just too great.

"Ah!"

"My lord, I'll go wake my men!" Gava's face paled for a moment before he quickly realized the gravity of the situation. If hunters were on their trail, that meant they had enemies.

As Gava left, Tyton returned.

"Young master, I've checked the guards around us. They haven't noticed anything," Tyton said respectfully as he approached Corvinus.

"However, the intuition of a war wolf is stronger than ours. There must be something wrong," Tyton added, glancing at Fenrir.

"Hmm."

"What's going on, my lord?" At the same time, the elven noble arrived in front of Corvinus, having naturally been awakened by the commotion.

"Nothing serious. I just sensed some movement. We're still observing," Corvinus said with a smile, trying to reassure the elf.

The elven noble let out a sigh of relief. He hoped nothing serious had happened. He was feeling extremely insecure at the moment. His elven guards were all severely injured, and he had completely drained his own magical power. Although he had regained a little, it would take at least two or three days to fully recover.

Cadia also returned and reported to Corvinus, "Young master, the brothers are on guard around us now."

"I know. Tell them to spread out carefully and not to act rashly for now," Corvinus instructed.

"Yes, sir!" Cadia acknowledged and hurried off to relay the orders.

Corvinus, on the other hand, stroked Fenrir's fluffy head and asked, "You sense someone over there? Take me there."

Fenrir nodded in a human-like manner and began walking east. Corvinus quickly followed, drawing the crossbow from his waist and pulling back the bowstring.

Tyton also swiftly joined them.

The elven noble, after a moment of hesitation, decided to follow as well.

The rocky outcrop they were on was only a few hundred square meters in size, surrounded by steep stone steps. It was a high vantage point.

In no time, Corvinus followed Fenrir to the eastern edge of the rocks. Although he knew there were layers of steep stone steps below, in the darkness of the night, it seemed like an abyss.

Seeing Fenrir staring ahead, Corvinus looked in the same direction. But as far as he could see, there were only rocks of various colors and scattered boulders.

"My lord, do you see anything?" the elven noble asked anxiously, looking around the dark surroundings.

"I'm not sure. It's too dark to see anything clearly," Corvinus replied, shaking his head.

Although he wasn't certain if there were enemies, it was always better to be cautious. Moreover, he trusted that Fenrir must have sensed some kind of danger.

"My lord, let me give it a try!" the elven noble suddenly said.

Corvinus was taken aback for a moment. What did he mean?

The elven noble raised his hands, and his entire body began to emit a red aura.

Corvinus was puzzled again. Fire element?

He knew the elven noble was a fifth-tier mage, and the only red element was fire. Clearly, the elf was a fire mage.

At the same time, a red six-pointed star magic array appeared in the distant sky.

"They have a mage, run!" came a scream from below the magic array, followed by the sounds of many footsteps and clanking armor.

Apparently, the enemies hiding below saw the magic array above their heads and were trying to escape.

Corvinus and the others' expressions changed slightly. There were indeed enemies tracking them.

At the same time, fireballs the size of soccer balls flew out of the magic array and rained down like meteors.

Under the illumination of nearly a dozen fireballs, the area below the magic array became as bright as day. Corvinus and the others saw a large number of enemies scrambling to run in all directions.

However, it was clearly too late for them.

The fireballs crashed into the ground with a loud rumble, but that wasn't the worst part. The fireballs burst open like water balloons upon impact.

Instantly, everything around, whether it was people fleeing in panic or rocks, began to catch fire.

"Ah!!"

"It hurts!!"

"Help, put out the fire!!"

Screams of agony filled the air. Corvinus watched as several enemies turned into human torches in the distance, and his heart skipped a beat. This was the power of a mage?

It was terrifying, capable of killing without a trace.

In just a dozen seconds, the area below had turned into a small sea of fire, with the sounds of fleeing and screaming mixing together.

However, at the same time, the elven noble's face turned pale, and he swayed on his feet. If it hadn't been for an elven guard quickly catching him, he would have collapsed to the ground.

Looking at the seemingly unconscious elven noble, Corvinus asked, "Is he going to be alright?"

"He'll be fine. His... boss just overexerted his magic," the elven guard replied.

Corvinus nodded.

...

Perhaps because the elven noble had revealed their hand, the enemies hiding in the darkness assumed they had a mage among them. As a result, no more enemies appeared until dawn.

In the morning, when Corvinus finally saw the area covered by the magic array, he truly understood the might of a mage.

At least eleven enemies had been reduced to ashes last night.

The elven noble, who had overexerted his magic, also woke up when they set off in the morning.

It wasn't until noon that they finally arrived at Casros Canyon.

...

"Is this Casros Canyon?" Corvinus asked in awe.

Apart from the elven noble and his guards, Corvinus and the other orcs looked like country bumpkins entering a city at that moment.

Corvinus swore he wasn't exaggerating.

As a Time Traveler,he had seen all sorts of architecture and landscapes on Blue Star before he came to this world.

However, this canyon's level of grandeur instantly became number one in his memory.

Although they were still two or three miles away from the canyon, on the surrounding plains, there were thousands of people coming from all directions—merchants, mercenaries, and various idle individuals. Some were preparing to enter the canyon, while others were exiting.

"Is this your lord's first time visiting the canyon?" the elven noble asked as he approached Corvinus.

"Yes, it is my first time," Corvinus replied without any attempt to hide it. After all, his and Tyton's expressions of being out of their element had already given them away.
