Her face turned green with envy, and I felt utterly delighted.

Dane remained silent, his brow furrowing deeper by the second.

Estrella and Caelan stood by, not daring to utter a word. After all, humans now had to tread carefully around these powerful beings.

Dane shot Caelan a venomous look. "You left me for him?"

My irritation grew. "Come on, even as King Blackwood, you can't have a harem. Lavender wouldn't be happy. Why do you care who I'm with?"

He glanced at Lavender, whose face was full of hopeful tenderness, and turned away in disgust.

He pressed on, asking me, "I just want to know if you're going to be with him."

My temper flared. "Yes!"

His face darkened, and with a cold laugh, he approached Caelan, grasping him by the throat.

"Now your man is about to die. Come back with me, and I'll spare him."

It was written all over Caelan's face: Are you out of your mind?

Estrella was visibly distressed; the two had just started to hit it off.
