RUTH IS BACK

" Alright, let's go. I'll take you back to my house, okay? Ruth has completed secondary school. She arrived yesterday afternoon," Uncle James said, a smile lighting up his face. "You won't be alone. She'll keep you company."

" Ruth?" I echoed, my heart sinking at the mention of her name. A wave of uneasiness swept over me. I don't know if it's just me, but I've always felt a strange weariness whenever she's around. Her absence had brought me the most peaceful years of my life, and now …. She's back?

I looked down trying to mask my nervousness with a forced smile. "Oh I'm excited to see Ruth!" I said, though the words felt hollow. My mind raced as I searched for a way out of this situation.

" why don't I stay at Grandma's house near the church until the funeral?" I asked trying to sound casual, hoping for a positive response.

Uncle James expression turned serious. " No Anaya. You and I both know we're in a critical moment right now. We're in the light while they're in the dark. He said firmly " I need to keep an eye on you, and I'm not listening to any excuses. You're coming with me."

His words left no room for argument. I sighed, nodding reluctantly. " Okay Uncle".
