Chapter 4, Burden: Part 15

Nina takes a deep breath, focusing her energy. A faint shimmer surrounds her hands as she channels her magic, summoning a swarm of iridescent insects. Tiny bees, shimmering with an unnatural luminescence, buzz into existence, a swirling cloud of glittering wings. They dart towards the creature, their buzzing a high-pitched whine that cuts through the oppressive silence of the Shadowfen. The creature, momentarily distracted by the swarm stinging its face, recoils, swatting wildly at the insects.

Its movements are momentarily hampered, its concentration broken. Nina gives a sharp and short whistle. Rex hearing your signal explodes into action.

With a ferocious bark, Rex launches himself at the creature's legs, his teeth sinking into the decayed flesh. The creature roars in pain and rage, its attention diverted from the insects to the sudden, sharp pain in its legs. Its balance falters, and it stumbles, momentarily losing its predatory grace. The swarm of insects continues its relentless attack, buzzing around its head, driving it to distraction. The creature flails wildly, attempting to swat away both the both the insects and Rex, but its coordination is impaired by the pain and the unexpected assault.

Nina seizes the moment, stepping forward, her heart pounding. She raises her hands, concentrating her energy for a more powerful spell. The creature, weakened and disoriented, presents a vulnerable target.
