Chapter 4

Suddenly, he realized something.

In my eyes, wide open with fear, the reflection of a figure appeared behind him.

It wasn't Holt, but Monica.

Kerpan tried to turn around, but it was too late.

Monica had already grabbed the knife, and the sharp blade plunged into Kerpan's back, its bloodied tip emerging from his chest.

Kerpan collapsed heavily to the ground.

I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Monica glanced at me, then picked up a cloth and gagged me again.

Monica began to dissect Kerpan just as she had done with Holt.

I don't know how much time passed.

I fainted and woke up, suddenly seeing Monica standing silently across from me.

I jolted in terror.

She didn't look at me, but turned on the shower and washed herself, then changed into clean clothes.

She burned the blood-spattered silk dress and flushed the ashes down the toilet.

After finishing all this, she crouched in front of me, looking me in the eye.

"Did you love him?"

I cried.

I didn't know why I was crying.

I mumbled, "No, I didn't love him."

This was actually the truth.

But I didn't know if Monica would believe me.

Nor did I know if she would spare me.Monica stood up and went to the living room to fetch a glass of red wine. She handed it to me.

"Drink it," she said.

I looked at the wine, then back up at Monica.

With no other choice, I drank the wine.

Ten minutes later, I lost consciousness.

I woke up by the riverside.

The blinding sunlight shone on me.

I looked down at myself - my clothes were intact, and even my dead phone was still in my pocket.

I ran stumbling like a madman until a passing car came along the highway.

I rushed towards the car. The driver rolled down his window and cursed at me, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"

I cried out, "Call the police, quick, call the police!"

Two hours later, I sat in the police station.

Across from me, taking my statement, was a female officer with a neat short haircut. She introduced herself as Delia.

"So you're saying that Monica, the daughter of the Ming He Group's chairman, killed your boyfriend Holt and his friend Kerpan, and you witnessed it all?"

I nodded heavily.

Delia said, "According to our investigation, Holt and Kerpan are indeed currently unaccounted for."

"Last night, there was an electrical fault in the neighborhood where they lived. All surveillance cameras were out of order. However, the surveillance cameras on nearby roads were still operational.

"The footage shows that at 2:35 AM, a black Range Rover left the neighborhood. This black Range Rover belongs to Kerpan. The person in the driver's seat was wearing a baseball cap and a mask, making it impossible to see their face clearly."

I got excited: "That's Monica!"

I shared my theory with Delia.

After dismembering the body, Monica put me, unconscious, along with the remaining body parts in Kerpan's trunk.

After killing Kerpan, she got hold of his keys, allowing her to change into Kerpan's clothes and drive his car to the outskirts to dispose of the body.

She dumped the remaining body parts into the river, which flowed into the sea.

And she left me by the riverbank.

Delia asked, "According to what you're saying, she sent you a text message about the mistress dying tonight, but in the end, she didn't kill you."

"That's right."

"What do you think is the reason for that?"

I shook my head, "I don't know. I can't fathom the thoughts of a killer."

Delia nodded, and just then, a sound came through her earpiece.

She glanced at me: "Monica has arrived at the police station."Delia took me to see Monica.

I was shaking all over.

She reassured me, "Don't worry, we're at the police station."

But my legs still kept giving out, and Delia had to support me.

The officer leading us pushed open the door, and there inside, Monica was sitting in a chair.

Hearing the door, she turned her head to look at me.

The next second, I was suddenly dumbstruck.

The sunlight outside was warm, but I couldn't stop shivering.

I said, "This is..."

Delia said, "This is Monica."

I nearly collapsed.

This Monica had a face completely unfamiliar to me.

I had never seen her before.
