Chapter 1

After the avalanche, my wife Susan, who was a member of the rescue team, saved me.

But she missed the last call from her first love, Carter.

Carter rear-ended a truck and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Susan cried and hugged me in the ward to comfort me.

"It's not your fault. I know the car accident has nothing to do with you."

But on my birthday, she cooked for me personally, knocked me unconscious and imprisoned me in the basement.

When I was awake, she cut me to pieces.

"Your life is saved, but who will pay for Carter's life! His body was burned to ashes, why are you still alive!"

I died of ulcers all over my body, and she hung my body on a branch next to Carter's tombstone to atone for my sins.

When I opened my eyes again, I returned to the time when the avalanche happened.

Almost instantly, the thick blanket of snow surged over my head, burying me beneath the snowy terrain.

My vision blurred, and the biting cold seeped into every fiber of my being, plunging my entire body into a state of hypothermia.

In such frigid conditions, one could easily slip into shock at any moment.

I bit into my palm, the sharp pain keeping me teetering on the edge of consciousness.

Without hesitation, I dialed the number for the search and rescue team headquarters.

At a time like this, they were my only hope for survival.

The person who answered the phone was Susan's teammate, someone who was close to her.

She seemed to have anticipated my call to Susan.

"Susan was spot on. She said if you couldn't reach her, you'd call our headquarters. Let me warn you, big guy, stop being so paranoid all the time. We're swamped with rescue operations here. This isn't some dating hotline!"

"Susan's on a critical mission! If you end up interfering with our rescue work and it costs lives, can you live with that on your conscience?"

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. Suddenly, it dawned on me that Susan might have been reborn too.

How else would she have known I'd call the search and rescue team?"I'm not calling for Susan. I'm buried in the snow right now, and if no one comes to rescue me, I could die at any moment!"

But as soon as I said this, the person on the other end became even more impatient.

"Come on, are you kidding me? You're still trying to trick people with this kind of thing? The rescue team isn't just here to serve you, we have other people in real trouble to save! That's it, I'm hanging up."

The busy tone after they hung up pierced my eardrums. When I tried to call back, it just showed the line was busy.

My heart sank to the bottom, and despair washed over me.

Even in this life, Susan was still so cold and heartless. She knew history would repeat itself, and she deliberately told her team members not to bother with me.

I knew Susan had gone to find Carter. For him, Susan would disregard everything, even a human life.

In my past life, our company had organized a team-building to this snowy mountain, but we never expected an avalanche. My colleagues were lucky enough to escape, but I was buried in the snow.

At that time, I instinctively called Susan, and she immediately came with her team members to search and rescue me, so I emerged unscathed.Later, I discovered that Susan had missed Carter's call before he left the country in order to come save me.

And Carter's ride-share to the airport got rear-ended, leading to injuries so severe he died.

Susan said it didn't matter, that she and I were the real couple.

Yet on my birthday, she tried to kill me in cold blood.

Tears slid down my cheeks as I struggled to breathe.

I had been married to Susan for ten years, loved her for ten years.

In the end, it all meant nothing compared to her "pure love."

I took a deep breath. The ice and snow beneath me had started to melt, making the surrounding temperature even colder.

With my last bit of strength, I pushed off the snow covering my body.

There were usually volunteers at the base of the mountain to handle emergencies.

It wasn't far from here to the bottom. If I could just crawl to where someone could see me, I'd be saved.

The will to live kept driving me forward.

I dragged my numb lower body, desperately crawling outward.

By the time my whole body was a bloody mess, I faintly heard the sound of people.

It was the volunteers from the base of the mountain.

The doctor with them was Susan's best friend, Scarlett.

The moment she saw me, her eyes revealed utter disbelief.
