Chapter 39: The Invisible Killer
The three-way battle between the Predators, Xenomorphs, and humans had raged on for roughly a day. Once Chang Wei confirmed that all of them were fully covered by his Blacklight Virus microorganisms, he decided it was time to finish them off in one fell swoop.
"Looks like it's time to harvest," Chang Wei remarked as he surveyed the situation. Humanity was on the verge of collapse.
The addition of the Predators had quickly nullified the humans' advantage in military weaponry. Though humans soon managed to detect the cloaked Predators, the latter's agility, combined with their plasma shoulder cannons—effective as both anti-tank and anti-fortification weapons—allowed them to destroy military structures and defensive lines in a single shot.
Even large-scale carpet bombings, akin to how snipers are dealt with—blindly striking with heavy explosives—only managed to take out a handful of unlucky Predators. The rest remained unscathed.
Their physical prowess far exceeded that of humans, with mobility rivaling the speed of high-performance cars. Equipped with advanced interception systems, their plasma shoulder cannons could neutralize most bombs and missiles.
Unless humans resorted to indiscriminate, scorched-earth bombardment, they had little chance of inflicting significant casualties on the Predators.
These Predators were far more advanced than those that battled the Governor in the jungle. Once they realized their cloaking was being detected, they swiftly adjusted it, rendering themselves invisible once again and leaving humans helpless in their search for them.
Predators despised being interrupted during their hunts. While they permitted humans to use weapons—be they cold steel or firearms—they drew the line at combat aircraft and tanks. Such heavy weaponry ruined the thrill of the hunt, stripping away the danger and excitement.
After losing several Blooded Predators (adult elites), the Predators prioritized eliminating the humans.
As a result, under the combined assault of the Predators and Xenomorphs, human casualties skyrocketed.
"The Invisible Killer!"
Chang Wei sent out an electronic signal. Instantly, the Blacklight Virus microorganisms covering the Predators, Xenomorphs, and their surroundings began to undergo a transformation.
Under a high-powered microscope, one could observe that the previously hairball-like structures with tendrils were now morphing into clawed, ferocious-looking entities, launching an all-out attack on their targets.
The humans, Predators, and Xenomorphs had already started to sense something was amiss. Corpses of their comrades were mysteriously vanishing, sometimes right before their eyes.
At first, they attributed this to the Xenomorphs' corrosive fluids. However, when bodies untouched by the fluids also began disappearing, their suspicions deepened.
Yet no matter what they did, they were unable to detect the microscopic Blacklight Virus organisms without specialized equipment.
Once Chang Wei issued the devouring command, the Xenomorphs began to visibly "disintegrate" and "melt" at a rapid pace.
Driven into a frenzy, the Xenomorphs attacked the surrounding air wildly, spraying corrosive fluid from their wounds in an attempt to harm their invisible assailants.
It was all in vain.
A colossal Predalien, having emerged from its cocoon, burst out of its nest in excruciating pain, destroying countless objects in its path. Under its agonized commands, hordes of Facehuggers and Xenomorphs climbed onto its body, self-mutilating and covering it with corrosive fluid.
While the Blacklight Virus microorganisms were highly resilient and resistant, they could not withstand such large quantities of corrosive fluid and were dissolved.
The heavily devoured Predalien soon began to recover. Xenomorphs possessed an unparalleled regenerative ability that defied the law of conservation of energy, allowing them to heal rapidly without consuming sustenance. This was why Chang Wei often described them as having a "lock-on health" ability.
Unless killed outright, even a near-dead Xenomorph could recover quickly.
Chang Wei was unfazed by the Predalien's narrow escape. He wasn't in a hurry; he could always devour it later.
As for the cloaked Predators, their fate was even worse than the Xenomorphs'.
Electrical sparks began to appear across their equipment, disabling their cloaking systems. The Blacklight Virus microorganisms had damaged their camouflage mechanisms, consuming large portions of the nets used for hanging weapons and enabling invisibility.
"ROAR—!"
Even the battle-hardened elite Predators and Blooded warriors could not endure the excruciating pain and unbearable itch caused by the microorganisms devouring their flesh. They clawed at their own bodies in desperation.
The Blacklight Virus microorganisms then infiltrated their flesh, pushing the Predators into unimaginable agony. Despite their experience, the Predators flailed their wrist blades and spears wildly, attempting to strike down their invisible attackers.
