Chapter 4

Suddenly, I remembered there was a spare phone in the bedroom.

I staggered over to the nightstand, searching everywhere for the phone.

Thankfully, where there's a will there's a way, and I managed to find it.

Hope welled up inside me as I turned the phone on.

But when I saw the photo on the phone's lock screen, I froze.

The lock screen photo had somehow been changed to a picture of Selene and Briar together.

And the background of the photo was this very room.

So they had been secretly involved all along.

Thinking about what they might have done in this room behind my back, a wave of nausea washed over me.

Looking at this phone with no SIM card inserted.

With trembling hands, I dialed the emergency number.

But this old phone that hadn't been used in ages suddenly froze up.

It jumped from the call screen to the photo gallery.

That's when I noticed there were over a thousand photos saved in the phone's gallery.

There were even several five-minute long videos.

Fighting through the pain, I tapped on each one to open it.

As soon as the video started playing, familiar moans came through the speaker.

The voice wasn't unfamiliar - it was Selene's.

When I saw clearly what was happening in the video, I couldn't hold back and started retching. I never saw it coming, but Selene and Briar had recorded everything they did.

In the video, Selene asked between breathy moans, "Who do you think is better, me or Melody?"

Without hesitation, he replied, fighting to control his heavy breathing, "You, of course. When I'm with her, I can't even get through it without thinking of you. If she didn't look like you, I never would have married her in the first place. Ouch, you little temptress, not so rough..."

So all this time when he was with me, he was thinking of Selene.

No wonder I always felt like he was looking through me at someone else.

Before I could process this, I heard moaning coming from the doorway.

"Oh, Briar, stop it. Melody's still in there."

"So what? Let her listen and learn something. Maybe then she won't be such a cold fish in bed."

Selene was clearly uninhibited. She giggled at his words without a hint of annoyance, "What does it matter? I can be with you anytime. As long as Melody doesn't mind."

"She's head over heels for me. She'll agree to anything I say. Once she calms down today, I'll have a talk with her." I lost all my strength and collapsed on the floor.

The immense dual pain, both physical and emotional, made me curl up involuntarily.

Unable to bear the agony, I cried and kicked over the chair in front of the vanity.

The loud thud of its fall sounded jarringly out of place in the quiet surroundings.

Just then, Briar's voice came from outside the room, barely containing his anger, "Are you ever going to stop? Keep this up, and you won't be coming out again!"

"It's alright. Melody's been spoiled since childhood, her family's indulged her too much. Don't take it personally," Selene said, feigning generosity. Then, suddenly raising her voice, she added, "There's a nice love hotel near the neighborhood. Should we go check it out?"

"Sure, whatever you say."

As soon as those words were spoken, Briar's phone suddenly rang.

It was a call from his mother.

Answering the phone, he heard his mom say, "Why aren't you and Melody back yet? She said earlier to tell you the good news, then head to the family estate. How come you're still not back?"
