All phone calls went unanswered.

But a single message brought him rushing over in a frenzy.

Seeing me lying in the hospital bed, he sneered, "Your tactics to get my attention are getting more and more cunning. You've even roped in the hospital staff to deceive me. You think just because you're in a hospital bed, I'll believe your story about a miscarriage?"

I found his arrogant statement laughable.

Even now, he was convinced I was trying to trick him.

"Believe it or not, your mom's room is on the third floor. You'd better go check on her now."

Briar's face turned cold, his words laced with barely concealed anger as he berated me, "Melody, my mom is your mother-in-law. How dare you curse her like that? Have you no humanity?"

There's no use trying to reason with a fool. If he didn't believe me, I saw no point in explaining further.

My silence only reinforced his belief that I was lying.

His eyes were filled with intense irritation as he looked at me.
