Experiments

The sudden invasion of monsters didn't just start with Eren's school. This started a few years ago.

Probably because of some reasons, the other cities weren't aware about the chaos happening around the world until it got to them or perhaps the monsters hid their existence and chose to make their appearance on the set day.

Eren's school was among those places later caught up in the destruction.

But during the first appearance of these monsters, a 'mad' scientist came up with a terrible idea.

He came up with the idea of 'using monsters to fight monsters.'

At first, no one agreed to this because the process was inhuman— injecting humans with the blood that comes directly from a monster's heart. With many things done, the human would awaken special abilities within them; abilities that belong to the monster whose blood now runs in their veins.

This was indirectly turning innocent humans to monsters, indirectly creating a world that would soon be taken over by man-made monsters but this didn't really matter to the scientist who said his goal is 'returning peace to the world once again'

This was something strongly unacceptable by those in charge that ended up causing the scientist's live but after some months, the increase in death and the destruction of many things led them to reconsidering.

Fortunately, the mad scientist's son who was well hidden was sought after a long deliberation. They reluctantly agreed to this mad idea and decided to do as the scientist had idealized. Sacrifices were bound to be made for the greater good of humanity.

Ryker and his team were the first to be experimented on and out of a fifty of them, only thirty survived. The twenty that failed either died in the process and had their bodies burned or turned to monsters and had to be killed to stop further destruction.

Ryker and those that are alive were fortunate to survive and they were the first to become successful test objects.

The name 'Mage' just came after searching through many books. It was the worst name to describe themselves but they had no second alternative.

"They have been asleep for an additional one week, do you think the experiment was a success?" Ryker was the one asking Doc James as they stepped into an enclosed field with some students dressed in white.

They were all actively carrying out trainings.

"These kids here were the first set to be experimented after they were brought here, are they not alive, and perfect?" Doc James asked Ryker. He was grinning widely as he watched the students carry out some physical training like fist-fighting, press-ups, and some others doing trainings that involved the mind. These ones could be seen using their minds to control objects far and near them.

"But only a few of them survived," Ryker said, stating the reason behind his concern. "Out of twenty, only eleven survived, the rest nine died."

"I understand your worry," Doc James stopped smiling and faced Ryker. "Losses are bound to occur in every day-to-day activities. Let's say, those that died weren't strong enough to control the monsters' influence in them, causing them to turn into monsters themselves. It isn't our fault"

Doc James was right, Ryker was aware of that because he had also experienced the same thing. He being alive was a miracle, he almost died if not for luck being on his side but that luck came with a price that he must pay until his death.

"Sir Ryker," a young man called Ryker from the back.

"Yes?" Ryker replied.

"They are all awake except for that rude one," the young man said and Ryker and Doc James glanced at each other before following the young man.

Getting to the room where all the students were kept, Ryker opened the door and stepped in. To his surprise, all of them survived and had woken up but...

He glanced over at Eren, the boy was yet to wake up.

"What is going on? Why hasn't he woken up?" He asked, sounding troubled.

"Who knows?" Doc James replied. "As you can see, the others are awake which indicates that the experiment was a success. I don't know why that one refused to wake up, there is no reason why he should not wake up."

Ryker's gaze swept the room, taking in the other students. They were all awake, but then, he noticed that something was suddenly off about them. Their eyes seemed... different. The way they moved around, it was almost... unnatural and dark energy in form of smoke were coming out from their bodies.

"Doc James, look at them," Ryker said, his voice trembling with fear.

Doc James followed Ryker's gaze, and his expression turned grim. "It can't be," he muttered. "We were so careful about it."

As they watched, one of the students' eyes flickered, and his body began to contort. His skin turned a sickly shade of green, and his fingers morphed into razor-sharp claws.

"No, no, no," Doc James whispered, horror etched on his face. "It's a failure. The experiment has failed but how?"

Ryker's face set in a grim mask. "We have to do something about it before it is too late."

"The only option is to kill them immediately," Doc James replied and Ryker was downcast.

Killing them was something he would not agree to but as usual, there was nothing else he could do to save them. Killing them before they completely turn is a better choice and a more suitable way of saving them the pain of living their lives as monsters.

"We need to kill them now!" Doc James yelled and was ready to do something but just then something happened.

A strange energy began to emanate from Eren's body. It was a pulsating, blue-green glow that seemed to be absorbing the dark energy emanating from the other students.

Ryker and Doc James exchanged a stunned glance. "What's happening?" Doc James breathed.

Ryker took a step closer to Eren, his eyes fixed on the glowing energy. "I don't know," he said, "but I think Eren might be the key to saving us all."

As they watched, the energy continued to grow, spreading throughout the room and enveloping the other students. Slowly but surely, their bodies began to return to normal, their eyes losing the unnatural glow, and the dark energy dissipating.

Ryker's face lit up with a mixture of hope and wonder. "It's working," he whispered. "Eren's energy is counteracting the monster's influence."

But as they gazed at Eren in awe, his eyes flickered open, and he sat up with a jolt. His gaze locked onto Ryker, and a low, menacing growl rumbled in his throat.

Ryker's smile faltered. "Eren, it's okay," he said, holding out a calming hand. "We're here to help you."

Eren glanced at Doc James for a while before he suddenly fell asleep again.
