Chapter 45: The Thousand-Year Soul Ring
At the Star Luo Royal Academy, Dai Yao learned how to distinguish the age of soul beasts, especially the Earth Dragon, a soul beast particularly suitable for the White Tiger martial soul, which he studied in greater detail.
The age of an Earth Dragon could be roughly judged based on its size.
The Earth Dragon in front of him was approximately eight meters long and three meters tall, indicating it was between 1,300 to 1,400 years old.
"This one will do," Dai Yao instructed the middle-aged soul master.
Without hesitation, the middle-aged soul master leaped forward and began a fierce battle with the Earth Dragon.
The soul rings glowed with yellow and purple light, and soul power surged as the sound of a terrifying dragon's roar echoed through the forest.
Fear flashed in the Earth Dragon's eyes. After living for a thousand years, it had gained some intelligence and realized that it could not escape. The only chance for survival was to fight to the death.
A white stream of air erupted from its nostrils, and its massive jaws opened wide, gathering white energy in its mouth.
With terrifying momentum, a white shockwave was released toward the middle-aged soul master. The ground was torn up as the shockwave gouged a path through it.
"Come on!" the middle-aged soul master roared, activating his fourth soul ring. It was time to unleash his ultimate attack.
Two powerful soul skills collided with each other, and the entire world seemed to be enveloped in white light.
After a long while, Dai Yao slowly opened his eyes.
At this point, the middle-aged soul master appeared somewhat disheveled, with dirt sticking to his face and several rips in his clothes.
"Mission accomplished. Your Highness, now finish it with the final strike."
"Thank you for your help today," Dai Yao said, bowing deeply in gratitude. Without the middle-aged soul master's assistance, he would have been unable to hunt a thousand-year soul beast on his own.
He silently promised that when he became successful, he would repay the middle-aged soul master.
Slowly approaching the fallen Earth Dragon, Dai Yao saw that it was seriously wounded, lying helplessly on the ground. Its large eyes glared at him in fury.
Its mouth opened slightly, and it struggled to move, trying to bite Dai Yao.
Without speaking, Dai Yao thrust a blade into the Earth Dragon's brain.
The Earth Dragon's pupils gradually became unfocused, and a deep purple light began to condense over its body, signaling the best time to absorb its soul ring.
Dai Yao's face tightened. He took a deep breath and sat beside the Earth Dragon's body. He said to the middle-aged soul master, "Please watch over me."
The middle-aged soul master nodded and stood guard around them.
With his protection, Dai Yao no longer had to worry about other soul beasts in the forest, allowing him to fully focus on absorbing the soul ring.
Activating his soul power, a White Tiger illusion appeared behind Dai Yao, and he called upon the Earth Dragon's soul ring.
The purple soul ring seemed to find its exit, and upon contact with Dai Yao's martial soul, an overwhelming tide of soul power surged toward him like a vast ocean.
The powerful soul power sent a shiver down the middle-aged soul master's spine. The energy of this thousand-year Earth Dragon was so powerful that it could rival his own 3,000-4,000-year-old fourth soul ring in quality.
Once the soul ring entered his body, Dai Yao felt a scorching flow rush through him, and his entire body felt like it was submerged in magma, boiling from the inside out.
The Earth Dragon, known for its violent and aggressive nature, had a soul ring as brutal as its temperament.
Dai Yao felt as if countless blades were slicing through his body, his internal organs agonizing from the constant tearing, and the overwhelming soul ring energy relentlessly ripped at his body, leaving him in intense pain.
A mouthful of blood spurted out.
Since this was his first time absorbing a soul ring that surpassed the limit, he was already prepared and could handle the pain from this thousand-year soul ring with more ease. After all, he had undergone three years of intense training and had developed a strong physique, far surpassing the average soul master's endurance.
Although his physical constitution was far superior to most of his peers, he was still only nine years old, and the thousand-year soul ring was far beyond the limit of a second soul ring.
The brutal soul ring energy battered Dai Yao's frail body. To the middle-aged soul master, it seemed that the only possible outcome would be Dai Yao's body exploding from the strain.
"Ah, it looks like the Fourth Prince won't last much longer," the middle-aged soul master sighed. "I better prepare to flee for my life."
But the next scene left him utterly shocked.
Dai Yao's body, which had been on the verge of falling apart, began to heal slowly.
"Blue Lotus, heal me!" Dai Yao roared in his spiritual world.
Immediately, the Blue Lotus began emitting green light, healing Dai Yao's broken body.
However, the immense energy still clashed against him. His body alternated between breaking apart and being restored, and the energy from the soul ring gradually diminished as it was absorbed.
After an unknown amount of time, Dai Yao's body was no longer torn apart, and the soul ring absorption process reached its conclusion.
The fine beads of blood stopped seeping out, and his tense brow began to relax.
In his spiritual world, a purple soul ring appeared.
Dai Yao, drenched in sweat, felt the exhaustion, but the joy of successfully absorbing the soul ring outweighed the fatigue.
"You can exceed the limits, but I have my tricks!" he thought.
Looking at his two martial souls, the Holy White Tiger and the Chaos Blue Lotus, he pondered for a moment and decided to attach the soul ring to the Blue Lotus.
After all, the greatest advantage of having twin martial souls was that, once one reached the level of a Title Douluo, the second martial soul could start absorbing soul rings at the maximum age of the first.
In the original story, Tang San, upon becoming a Title Douluo, attached a soul ring to his Haotian Hammer, with the lowest soul beast age being over 50,000 years.
But Dai Yao's situation was different. Although he also had twin martial souls, he hadn't yet attached a soul ring to his Chaos Blue Lotus. Yet, mysteriously, the Chaos Blue Lotus had a yellow soul ring.
This time, he decided to treat the Blue Lotus as his primary martial soul, planning to attach a soul ring to the Holy White Tiger once he became a Title Douluo.
It seemed as though the thousand-year soul ring had its own will. It swiftly flew toward the Chaos Blue Lotus.
However, the Chaos Blue Lotus appeared to reject it, gently shaking and pushing the purple soul ring toward the Holy White Tiger.
It was as if the purple soul ring was unworthy of it.
The purple soul ring hesitated, trying again and again, but it was ultimately pushed away to the Holy White Tiger.
The Holy White Tiger, now no longer showing any of its former majesty, rolled on the ground like a giant cat, gazing at the soul ring with longing.
Dai Yao was stunned by the strange scene.
Once the Holy White Tiger absorbed the thousand-year soul ring, it stopped its playful behavior, standing tall and mighty once more.
Dai Yao exhaled lightly and slowly opened his eyes. Two soul rings now circled around him—one yellow, one purple.
The second soul ring—thousand years!
"Finally, success!" Dai Yao exclaimed.
The middle-aged soul master stared blankly at Dai Yao, his expression almost manic. He rushed over to Dai Yao's side, panting and said excitedly, "Your Highness, you really did it! Do you know? You've created a miracle!"
"In the entire soul master world, no one has ever succeeded in absorbing a thousand-year soul ring as their second ring!"
