Chapter 35: If You Continue Down This Path, You Are Bound to Fail (part1)

None of it makes sense.

"'When witch and wolf blood merge as one, ancient powers shall be undone. The child of two worlds will hold the key, to either bind or set magic free,'" I mutter, reciting Callista's words for what felt like the hundredth time.

There's more to it. There has to be.

Jay watches me from across the room, concern etched into his face.

We're holed up in one of Bastian's safe houses, a rustic cabin tucked away in the mountains. Callista is sleeping in the back room, exhausted from her injuries and our interrogation.

"You should rest," Jay says, not for the first time. "You've been at this since sunrise."

I rub my eyes. "I can't. Something's missing, Jay. Something important."

"Lucien," I say suddenly, the name falling from my lips before the thought fully forms. "Lucien will know."
