Giving In To Temptation

 Confident his beloved woman would no longer be entangled with Alexi he stepped out of the shower. He picked up the crumpled pair of trousers on the bathroom and took the ring out of the pocket.

 After he dressed he sat on the edge of the bed and picked up Merri's delicate hand. He slipped the gold band onto her finger then kissed it. My sweet angel, this ring is my promise to you. I will cherish and love you for the rest of my life.

 He reluctantly left the bedroom then called Mikael. "Are your men ready?"

 "Waiting for your instructions."

 "I haven't heard yet, but I am returning to Kazan. I will contact you."

 Mikael looked at a paper on his desk, "It is going to be difficult to keep Miss Sun. A lawyer from a powerful law firm came and insisted she be released for lack of evidence. He also brought proof of ownership of the jade artifact."

 "Is she at the hospital?"

 "Yes."

 'Well, it was either Meng Po or her husband. I will find out."

Nikolai entered the garage and opened the trunk of an ordinary black mid sized car that Max arranged for him. He lifted a cover and opened two gun cases. He nodded in satisfaction and walked to the driver side. 

 Mikael grimaced when he drank the coffee that his assistant brought. Too bitter! I told her to add sugar! "He said he was going to the hospital to check on her condition."

 Nikolai got into the car and started the engine then looked at his watch, He hung up and called Sydney, "Did you send a lawyer to get LingLing released?"

 Sydney opened the door to a luxurious hotel suite at the Shanghai Towers. "Why would I?"

 "..."

 "Did you hear from Meng Po about WeiWei and the exchange? I tried calling but there was no answer."

 As Nikolai pulled out of the snow covered driveway he responded, "Not yet. You aren't concerned about LingLing."

 "She will die soon, the price of betrayal is death. Meng Po will attribute his recent troubles to the bitch and think she colluded with you to steal the artifacts."

 "So he wants to kill us both. Well, I don't plan on dying anytime soon."

 Sydney tossed his gray designer coat on a chair, "I have considered what you asked but it will be more difficult that I thought. Alexi appears to be fixated on that little girl."

 Nikolai's eyes emitted a strong killing intent, "Why do you say that?"

 "He returned to the city and heard the details of what happened in Kazan. He was furious that LingLing put the little piano player in danger. Didn't he call you?"

 "No." I threw away my phone and didn't call Alexi with the new number. Dammit! I thought he would still be in England!

 "He is arriving in Kazan tomorrow. He wants to take the little girl back with him."

 Nikolai was filled with uncontrollable rage. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel and sounded agitated,"How did he find out? You fucking told him?"

 "Why would I do that?"

 Unable to control his turbulent emotions Nikolai snapped, "He can't have her! She is mine!"

 "I told you that I would help you if you saved WeiWei."

 Nikolai's mind was in chaos, "So telling me this...is to remind me what is at stake if I fail to save the girl."

 "You are a smart man. Although I didn't tell Alexi I had no reason to dissuade him from going."

 "Sydney, have I ever failed a mission? I will deliver the girl to you unharmed and if you don't meet your end of the deal...well as you said the price of betrayal is death."

 "Are you threatening me?"

 "No. I am only reminding you that I am no longer willing to give up what I want for you or Alexi. I am going to marry Merri Winslow and leave the Organization. I would like to do that peacefully so don't force me into a corner."

 Sydney touched the carved red sandalwood beads on his wrist then laughed, "The little piano player must have some talent in bed to bewitch both you and Alexi. Deliver WeiWei safely...I will handle Alexi."

 Nikolai's dark eyes are rolling with flames, "That is the problem with you and Alexi...you don't know how to respect or love a woman...you only use a woman to satisfy your needs."

 "Once you have a weakness your enemies will exploit it. Keep that in mind." Sydney wondered how Meng Po knew about Gao WeiWei's importance to him.

 "I have confidence I can protect my woman and myself. I will be in contact."

 Nikolai hung up and slammed his hand on the steering wheel. Fucking bastard!
