Chapter 16

I returned to my father's house.

He had remarried my stepmother when I was eight years old and they had a son together. For many years, I didn't want to disturb his new life, so I rarely reached out to him.

But at this moment, I desperately needed the comfort of family.

My father, stepmother, and half-brother were all shocked to see me. They scrambled to pour me water and cut fruit.

In a room filled with the aroma of books and tea, I fell into a deep sleep.

I slept for a long, peaceful time.

When I woke up, it was already evening. The three of them were quietly reading in the living room.

My father and stepmother are college professors.

My half-brother is a super academic achiever.

Seeing me awake, my stepmother immediately went to the kitchen and brought out a plate of dumplings from the steamer. She awkwardly called my name, saying she could make more if it wasn't enough. Then, she pulled my brother into a room, leaving the living room to my father and me.
