Chapter 9

Iris walked in timidly, "There's an important document from Finance that needs your signature."

Archer frowned silently.

I spoke nonchalantly, "Why are you delivering financial documents?"

Iris glanced at Archer, her voice tinged with hurt.

"I'm about to resign, so I don't have much work. I'm just running an errand for my Finance colleague."

"Resign?" I took a bite of my apple and turned to Archer. "Secretary Iris is quitting?"

Archer slowly wiped his juice-stained hands with a tissue, looking amused.

"As the esteemed CEO, how would I know about such trivial matters?"

Iris's eyelashes quivered, and her eyes suddenly welled up.

"Mrs. Stratton, I hope you don't mind me saying, but my child's father wants us to move abroad. He—"

"That's enough," Archer stood up, cutting Iris off. "My wife needs rest and shouldn't be disturbed. Let's go sign outside."

A minute after they left, I got out of bed.
