The Beast’s Trail

The room was still.

The smell of blood hung in the air, thick and suffocating.

Ryo stood among the corpses, his fingers clenched into fists. His mind tried to process it—to make sense of the brutality before him—but there was no logic to it.

Takeshi. The mother. The old man. The son.

They were gone.

And the system didn't care.

> [Survivor Status Updated.]

Remaining Survivors: ???

The screen flickered before him, almost mocking in its indifference.

Ryo exhaled slowly. His heartbeat was steady. Not out of calmness, but out of a cold, creeping realization.

Something stronger had done this.

And it was still out there.

The woman behind him spoke first, her tone unreadable.

"This wasn't a clean kill."

Ryo turned to her, eyes narrowing.

"You've seen something like this before?"

She nodded. "In the first few days of the game, I came across a massacre like this. No finesse. Just raw, uncontrollable slaughter."

She looked at him then, studying him.

"This wasn't the work of a normal Hunter."

Ryo already knew that. The wounds were too wild—too reckless.

The beast that did this didn't kill for survival.

It killed because it wanted to.

Haruto took a step back, his breath shaky. "Ryo… do you think…"

He couldn't finish the sentence.

Ryo knew what he wanted to ask.

Were they next?

"We need to move." Ryo's voice was firm. "Whoever—or whatever—did this might still be watching."

The woman smirked, amused by his quick deduction. "You catch on fast."

She glanced down at the bodies one last time.

"Too bad for them. Wrong place, wrong time."

Haruto turned pale. "How can you say that?"

"They're dead. We're not." The woman shrugged. "That's all that matters."

Ryo didn't respond, but his grip on his weapon tightened.

She was right—and that was the worst part.

A System Message Appears

As they turned to leave, the system blinked to life again.

> [New Scenario: The Prey's Awakening]

You have witnessed the aftermath of an unfinished hunt.

The predator is still nearby.

> [Main Objective: Survive.]

> Time Remaining: 00:10:00

The system's words sent a chill down Ryo's spine.

Ten minutes.

That's how long they had before the predator came back.

And if the system was giving them a warning, that meant only one thing—

They were the next target.

The Chase Begins

"Move. Now."

Ryo was already running, instincts taking over.

The woman followed without hesitation, her hand on her knife. Haruto stumbled after them, breath ragged.

The building's narrow corridors stretched before them, a maze of abandoned rooms and bloodstained walls. Every step echoed. Every breath felt too loud.

And then—

A low growl.

Not human.

Something was moving behind them.

Something big.

Ryo's system screen flickered again—

> [Warning: Predator Detected.]

He didn't look back.

There was no time.

---

The Exit is Blocked

They reached the end of the hallway—only to find a dead end.

A collapsed section of the building blocked their escape. Rubble. Concrete. There was no way through.

Haruto let out a strangled sound. "No… no, we can't—"

The growling grew louder.

Ryo turned, heart pounding.

The corridor behind them darkened.

And then, from the shadows—

It appeared.

A monstrous figure, hunched and twitching. Its body was distorted, like something that had once been human but had long since abandoned that form.

Its eyes locked onto them.

And then—

It charged.
