The Nightmare’s Trial

The massive beast loomed over them, its jagged exoskeleton gleaming under the blood-red sky.

But that wasn't the only problem.

Footsteps echoed behind them.

Ryo spun around, his instincts screaming—

And then, he saw him.

A tall man with a twisted grin, his black hair disheveled, his pale face smeared with blood. He casually swung a bloodstained knife in his hand, like a child playing with a toy.

His piercing yellow eyes gleamed with insanity.

"Ah… this is fun."

Ryo's breath caught in his throat.

He knew this man.

A name from the novel surfaced in his mind—

Lucien Vale.

A psychopath. A man who found joy in murder.

Kael's greatest rival during the second scenario.

But something was wrong.

He wasn't supposed to be here yet.

In the novel, Lucien appeared at the end of the second scenario, after Kael had grown strong enough to face him.

But now?

Kael wasn't nearly strong enough yet.

And worst of all—

They were surrounded.

The Nightmare Beast roared, charging toward Kael.

At the same time, Lucien lunged toward Ryo, his knife flashing.

"Damn it!" Ryo barely dodged, the blade grazing his cheek.

Kael and Shiori turned their focus to the beast, while Ryo had no choice but to face Lucien.

Lucien licked his lips. "Your reaction speed isn't bad."

His movements were unpredictable, his attacks wild yet precise.

Ryo barely blocked a strike, his sword clashing against the knife.

Lucien's grin widened. "You're not bad at all. What's your name?"

Ryo didn't answer.

Lucien chuckled. "Doesn't matter. I'll carve it into your corpse later."

And with that, he vanished.

—No, not vanished.

He was just too fast.

While Ryo fought Lucien, Kael stood firm as the beast charged.

BOOM!

The monster slammed into the ground, cracking the pavement beneath its massive claws.

Kael dodged, slashing at its side, but his attack barely left a scratch.

Shiori circled behind, looking for an opening.

The beast whipped its tail, aiming at her—

Kael reacted instantly.

CLANG!

His sword intercepted the blow, but the force sent him flying backward.

He barely landed on his feet, his arms trembling from the impact.

His strength… wasn't enough.

In the novel, Kael had been strong enough to win.

But right now—

He wasn't the same Kael yet.

Meanwhile, Haruto groaned in pain, clutching his bleeding shoulder.

Ryo gritted his teeth.

They were being overwhelmed.

Lucien was playing with him. Kael and Shiori were struggling against the beast. Haruto was injured.

If this continued—

They would all die.

Ryo's fingers tightened around his sword.

He had to do something.

Now.
