Her mouth was running a mile a minute, spittle flying as she spoke, like a gossipy old biddy talking trash about the neighbors.
Aria was never like this. She had never spoken ill of anyone.
In that moment, Caelan felt as if he'd never truly known Melody, and even began to feel a sense of disgust.
Melody noticed Caelan's silence and assumed he was agreeing with her. She continued with even more enthusiasm:
"Marrying you is the luckiest break she's had in several lifetimes. I don't believe for a second she'd be willing to leave you. Listen, Caelan, the more Aria acts like this, the less you should give in to her. Otherwise, she'll be walking all over you before you know it. Alright, let the search and rescue team keep fishing around here. Come on, let's go back and finish our jewelry shopping..."
Caelan finally snapped, yanking his arm away and shouting:
"Shut up! Aria's life is hanging in the balance, and you're worried about jewelry shopping?"
