Chapter 7

Time had passed - an entire month - but to Emerson, it felt like a year.

He hadn't been able to find me, as if I had completely evaporated from his life.

Every day, he went through the motions like a zombie, countless times dreaming of my silhouette, countless times jolting awake from those dreams, left with nothing but an empty bed and the silence of his room.

Finally, at Melody's wedding, he received a message from his assistant:

"Mr. Carlisle, we've located your wife. She's on an overseas assignment in South Africa."

Those few short sentences made Cian's heart race so fast he could barely breathe.

He stood up, and not long after he left, Melody came chasing after him.

Tears in her eyes, her voice choked up: "Brother, it's my wedding day. You can't leave."

Emerson's gaze didn't linger on her face for long. He said urgently in a low voice, "I have an emergency. I have to go."
