She hesitated before answering, "It's just that kind of relationship, why are you asking?"
"Are we manager and artist, or boyfriend and girlfriend? Whatever the relationship, your attitude towards me is terrible. Why?"
Scarlett was silent for a moment, then said,
"Let's just be friends for now."
"I'm only focused on my career right now, I don't want emotions taking up too much time."
I laughed, remembering how she once swore she'd love me forever.
We had been through thick and thin together, even fantasizing about retiring from showbiz before we turned thirty-five.
Now our relationship had been downgraded to just friends.
"I understand what you mean. Let's end things here then."
"I'll have my lawyer sort out our business entanglements as soon as possible."
I sensed Scarlett was a bit surprised by my calmness.
"Don't you dare regret this!"
"I couldn't be happier!"
She hung up the phone.
I felt a sense of relief, but also a chill.
As expected, I had caught a cold.
